Introdução: A Cannabis sativa é uma planta que apresenta vários benefícios terapêuticos para animais, como tratamento da dor neuropática, inflamatória e osteoartrose. A dor é bastante recorrente na rotina clínica, sendo importante seu manejo para que seja ofertada uma melhor qualidade e conforto de vida para o paciente. Objetivo: Apresentar os diferentes tratamentos e sua eficácia para analgesia utilizando um dos seus princípios ativos, canabidiol (CBD). Metodologia: Foi feito uma revisão de literatura onde foi realizada a busca de estudos experimentais e relatos de caso em bases de dados eletrônicos, sendo incluídas fontes contendo a utilização do CBD em animais, que abordaram controle da dor dos pacientes, assim como escore avaliativo da dor antes, durante e após o tratamento proposto. Resultados: Após eleger e analisar 9 estudos relacionando CBD e o controle da dor em animais foi possível mensurar através do escore avaliativo de dor que a diminuição da mesma foi muito expressiva em mais de 85% dos cães testados. Oferecendo desta forma eficiência no tratamento, dando suporte para promover analgesia, tanto em seu uso isolado ou associado com outros medicamentos. A dor oncológica atinge grande parte dos animais durante a evolução da neoplasia, podendo ser tratada com diferentes fármacos como anti-inflamatórios e opióides. O CBD assim como os opióides possuem ação analgésica, pois mediam a liberação de citocinas das células imunológicas auxiliando na redução da dor e inflamação e no cérebro modulam a liberação de neurotransmissores que evitam a atividade neuronal excessiva, promovendo um efeito calmante e redução da ansiedade. Considera-se que mais de 25% dos cães são passíveis à osteoartrose, foi demonstrado que doses de CBD administradas após uma semana obteve-se um aumento de 30% na melhora de acordo com a escala geral de dor, observa-se além da analgesia, uma função neuroprotetora. A dor neuropática é causada por lesões ou doenças nervosas, o CBD reduz a alodinia ocasionada e demonstrou um efeito ansiolítico. Em dores viscerais a utilização de CBD pode restaurar a homeostase e atuar como anti-inflamatório. Conclusão: A utilização de CBD mostrou-se eficaz, confirmando assim uma nova alternativa para o controle da dor em animais.
