BackgroundGestational diabetes is a risk factor for future development of type 2 diabetes. The primary aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of postpartum glucose tolerance status evaluation in pregnancies complicated by gestational diabetes 6–12 weeks after delivery. The secondary one was to identify the factors that are implicated with postpartum glucose retesting.MethodsThis was a retrospective study performed with a cohort of women with gestational diabetes, with prenatal care and delivery at a tertiary care center, from January 2013 to April 2017. The diagnosis of gestational diabetes was based on IADPSG criteria (Fasting ≥ 92 mg/dl, 1 h ≥ 180 mg/dl and/or 2 h ≥ 153 mg/dl, respectively) and the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and prediabetes were made using the 2016 ADA’s criteria (fasting and 2 h after glucose load ≥ 126 mg/dl and/or ≥ 200 and 100–125 mg/dl and/or 140 and 199 mg/dl, respectively). All women had an appointment scheduled 6–12 weeks postpartum with the results of a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).ResultsOf the 152 evaluated women, 21 (13.8%) returned with the postpartum OGTT results. Of these, 9 (45.0%) had a diagnosis of prediabetes. The use of insulin during gestation was the only factor implicated in a higher adherence rate to postpartum testing OR 6.33 (p 0.002). No significance was found for other demographic and clinical variables (age, family income, years of study, parity, gestational age at first visit, smoking, family history of type 2 diabetes, diagnosis of gestational diabetes before the third trimester, pregestational body mass index, previous history of gestational diabetes and ethnicity).ConclusionThe majority of patients with gestational diabetes did not return postpartum to perform OGTT and in our study the only factor implicated in a higher postpartum return was the use of insulin during pregnancy. Considering that 45.0% were diagnosed with prediabetes, diabetes care teams should initially identify non-adherent patients.

Pretendeu-se, com este estudo, identificar a satisfação e controle glicêmico das pessoas com diabetes mellitus tipo 2, após a participação em um programa de monitoramento com suporte telefônico, utilizando o modelo de cuidado crônico. Trata-se de estudo do tipo observacional e transversal. Para a obtenção dos dados, foi utilizado um questionário contendo variáveis sociodemográficas, variável clínica da hemoglobina glicada e uma escala de satisfação, com dois grupos distintos, um monitorizado por telefone e outro não. O grupo que obteve o melhor controle da hemoglobina glicada foi aquele em que houve apoio e acompanhamento telefônico para o monitoramento do diabetes. A maioria dos pacientes mostrou-se satisfeita com as ligações recebidas, após um processo educativo por telefone, o que corrobora evidências como o cuidado e acolhimento que o usuário recebe do serviço de saúde para o uso dessa tecnologia em diabetes.

RESUMO: Este estudo analisou a percepção do ambiente para a prática de atividade física de pessoas com diabetes mellitus tipo 2 de uma cidade do interior paulista. Foram entrevistadas 86 pessoas, quanto aos dados sociodemográficos, Questionário Internacional de Atividade Física, e a Escala de Percepção do Ambiente adaptada. A maioria das pessoas estão acima dos 60 anos de idade, são mulheres, aposentados, baixa renda e não atingiram 150 minutos de prática de atividade física por semana. As pessoas que percebem acesso a conveniências mais próximas à sua residência são mais ativas no tempo de lazer do que as que não percebem. Assim como, as que recebem convite de vizinhos e/ou amigos têm mais chance de praticarem atividade física do que as pessoas que não recebem. As pessoas que percebem acesso a conveniências longe de sua residência e ruas planas próximas à sua residência têm mais chance de praticar caminhada como forma de deslocamento do que as pessoas que não percebem. Há necessidade de adequação dos espaços públicos que favoreça a motivação, o ambiente físico e social para a prática de atividade física de pessoas com diabetes mellitus.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the health-related quality of life and clinical parameters of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, which was undertaken with 73 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in a health unit of the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) [Brazilian Unified Health System] in Ribeirão Preto city, São Paulo State, Brazil, in 2016. The DQOL-Brazil questionnaire, which covers the domains of satisfaction, impact, social and/or vocational concerns, and concerns about diabetes mellitus, was used for data collection. Results: Most of the participants were female, married, and retired with an average age of 62.7 years old. The domain of vocational and/or social concerns had the best score for quality of life while satisfaction had the worst. The quality of life of patients with altered glycated hemoglobin levels was worse than that of patients without such alterations. For those with unchanged hemoglobin glycated levels, the domain of social and/or vocational concerns had the best quality of life scores while the domain of satisfaction had the worst. Conclusion: The results can help the development of intervention studies and strategic plans in health services.
