A hiperidrose é uma condição que causa suor excessivo e desconforto, acarretando um impacto emocional e psicológico nos portadores. Essa patologia pode se apresentar de forma primária, como uma alteração crônica, idiopática e simétrica e de forma secundária, caracterizada por associar disfunções endócrinas. Os tratamentos podem ser invasivos e não invasivos temporários como a toxina botulínica, que se mostra eficaz trazendo um resultado satisfatório. A toxina botulínica é uma potente neurotoxina produzida pela bactéria Clostridium botulinum e seu uso tem se tornado constante para diversos tratamentos como o da hiperidrose. Existem oito tipos de TxB, porém o mais estudado e utilizado principalmente para finalidades médicas e estéticas, é o tipo A, que faz ligação nas terminações nervosas das fibras simpáticas pós-ganglionares e inervam as glândulas sudoríparas promovendo efeitos de paralisia na junção neuromuscular e assim inibindo a liberação da acetilcolina, causando uma diminuição da contração muscular. As aplicações devem ser manipuladas por profissionais capacitados e devem ser antecedidas pelo teste de Minor que irá determinar a intensidade da hiperidrose e os locais mais afetados. Sabe-se que, apesar de ser um tratamento seguro e eficaz, é necessário realizar reaplicações após o período de ação da toxina, uma vez que sua duração varia entre 4 e 6 meses, dependendo da fisiologia do organismo da pessoa tratada.
