La parálisis cerebral es considerada actualmente como la afectación motora e incapacitante más frecuente en la etapa de la niñez, por lo que se le ha dado principal importancia a la mejora de la motricidad con el objetivo de iniciar la marcha tempranamente. En la última década se ha iniciado el estudio de la repercusión de esta entidad a nivel cognitivo, sin que se cuente con suficientes evidencias. En el presente estudio se evaluó la función de la memoria en dos grupos, grupo que recibió rehabilitación asistida por robot (n=15) y el grupo con rehabilitación tradicional (n=15). La muestra recabada estaba en edad escolar y pertenecía a las ciudades de Ensenada y Tijuana, Baja California. Ambos grupos fueron evaluados mediante el instrumento Evaluación de la Inteligencia de Reynolds (RIAS). Se encontró que el valor promedio del índice general de la prueba RIAS después de la rehabilitación fue de 68.38 y 56.46 para el grupo de estimulación robótica y estimulación convencional, respectivamente. El análisis estadístico confirmó que había diferencias en los dos grupos (U=50, p<.05), es decir, que el grupo que recibe la terapia robótica tuvo un mejor desempeño en las funciones evaluadas por la prueba RIAS en comparación con el grupo que recibió la rehabilitación tradicional.
Las evidencias sobre la relación entre el estilo de alimentación y las repercusiones que se tienen sobre el tejido cerebral, su bioquímica, actividad eléctrica y las funciones psicológicas asociadas han cobrado más importancia en la actualidad. En esta investigación se hizo el seguimiento del desempeño en pruebas de memoria de una participante de 30 años, con obesidad y un consumo promedio de 2100 calorías por día. El análisis estadístico demostró que la participante tuvo una mejora significativa en el desempeño de las pruebas de memoria después de 3 semanas con una dieta de 1400 calorías (restricción calórica). Adicionalmente, reportó sentirse con mayor motivación y nivel de energía. Se concluye que la restricción calórica puede favorecer procesos cognitivos debido a una probable mejora de las condiciones fisiológicas del hipocampo y la corteza frontal. Se propone hacer un seguimiento a largo plazo y evaluar funciones emocionales.
