El consumo es un fenómeno de gran peso en la vida actual de los países desarrollados y también de los que están en vías de desarrollo, sinónimo de felicidad y de estatus personal. Por todo ello el consumo merece ser objeto de la educación. En la educación para el consumo resulta clave la implicación familia-escuela, puesto que los padres marcan las primeras pautas en este terreno, junto al contexto social y los medios de comunicación. La educación para el consumo implica información, capacidad de análisis crítica de las situaciones y sensibilidad respecto a las consecuencias del consumo desmedido, que pone en peligro la supervivencia misma del planeta. El consumo se enfrenta así con la escala de valores que la educación debe defender.
El concepto de competencias y todo cuanto implican está penetrando de manera decisiva en todas las modalidades y niveles del quehacer pedagógico. El concepto está más cerca de “capacidad” que de “habilidad”, en la medida que se trata de la potencialidad de actuar ante situaciones diversas poniendo a contribución las tres dimensiones del saber bien conocidas: conocimientos, habilidades y actitudes; las competencias actualizan las capacidades ante una situación y momento concretos. Las competencias del profesorado de secundaria se derivan de las funciones profesionales que le corresponde realizar en la actualidad y funciones generales del profesorado de secundaria son: planificar e implementar el currículo escolar, tutorizar a los alumnos, apoyarse en el contexto familiar y social y actualizarse e implicarse en la profesión docente.
El tema central de este artículo es la participación familiar. El artículo se centra en cuatro áreas: 1) La definición del concepto de la implicación de los padres como factor de calidad en la educación y como una exigencia de la democracia social. 2) Las políticas que permiten a los padres hacer efectiva su participación en la escuela. 3) Los ámbitos de actuación o dimensiones de la educación escolar: planificación de la actuación pedagógica en función de las necesidades individuales y sociales; materialización de los procesos escolares de enseñanza-aprendizaje, evaluación de los resultados, orientación pedagógica personal. 4) Posible crisis de la participación de la familia en la educación y sus implicaciones, según el grado de implicación de los padres en la escuela.
