O modelo de desenvolvimento implementado no espaço agrário brasileiro teve como pressuposto a modernização, cujo mote seria o de que melhoraria o campo tirando-o do atraso e estabelecendo os alicerces para o progresso. Entretanto, o que não é posto em discussão são as consequências para os sujeitos do campo – a classe do campesinato – que, ao longo desse processo vem, paulatinamente, perdendo sua territorialidade, sua cultura, em função da introdução de práticas da indústria cultural, que são exógenas ao seu modo de vida, contribuindo decisivamente à sua (des)construção. Este artigo traz uma reflexão sobre as alterações sofridas nesses espaços, particularmente, no que se refere às alterações da cultura camponesa e a importância da Educação do Campo e a formação de professores como estratégias de resistência camponesa aos processos de desmonte do modo de vida camponês. O recorte territorial em que se observou algumas dessas transformações, foi a comunidade camponesa, Várzea Grande, pertencente ao município de Cristino Castro (Piauí).
