ResumoEste estudo tem como objetivo realizar uma revisão na literatura acerca dos métodos de avaliação da composição corporal (CC) de indivíduos acometidos de lesão medular completa. Foram realizadas buscas em artigos publicados entre 2002 e 2013 que envolvessem pesquisas exploratórias (longitudinais ou transversais). Foi realizada uma revisão sistemática nas bases eletrônicas de dados multidisciplinares -Web of Science e Scopus, que integram as bases eletrônicas: Medline, Pubmed, Lilacs, Portal Scielo, SciVerse e Bireme. Os descritores pesquisados foram construídos com base na estratégia P.I.C.O. e relacionaram-se com as seguintes palavras: lesão na medula espinhal, quadriplegia ou tetraplegia, paraplegia e composição corporal (em português e inglês). Foram encontrados um total de 108 artigos. Desses, 30 artigos foram classificados como exploratórios e se enquadraram nos critérios de inclusão. Dentro dessa magnitude de métodos e instrumentos capazes de avaliar a CC de indivíduos com lesão medular, podese concluir que: os profissionais da área da saúde que utilizam métodos de avaliação da CC o fazem para obterem estratégias e/ou intervenções mais adequadas para essa população; os mesmos estão atentos as especificidades dos instrumentos/equipamentos que permitem a avaliação direta da CC e os possíveis equívocos ligados a estimação de componentes corporais de indivíduos com lesão medular; ademais, conhecem a fidedignidade dos resultados das avaliações antropométricas.
