RESUMO: O Brasil é um dos países com maior diversidade de espécies de orquídeas e com ampla distribuição em todos os estados, onde Alagoas se destaca com grande diversidade de espécies. Porém, apesar dessa grande diversidade relatada, são poucos os estudos na região agreste do estado sobre orquídeas. Neste sentido o trabalho teve por objetivo coletar e identificar a espécie de orquídea encontrada na reserva no município de Igaci, região agreste do estado, contribuindo para pesquisas nessa área. A metodologia seguiu a descrita por Cardoso e Israel, onde foram observadas populações da família Orchidaceae sobre a vegetação arbórea. As populações das plantas hospedeira e da orquídea estudada foram fotografadas e posteriormente identificadas. A exsicata da espécie coletada foi enviada para identificação por especialista na flora local, do herbário do Instituto do Meio Ambiente de Alagoas, e depositada no Herbário MAC. A mesma foi identificada como Família Orchidaceae, espécie Catasetum macrocarpum Rich. ex Kunth, e estava sobre plantas adultas de Ouricurí (Syagruscoronata). Após estudos, verificou-se que esta espécie tinha sido identificada em Alagoas em outros diferentes municípios do estado, sendo neste município sua primeira ocorrência. Pesquisas sobre as orquídeas nativas de Alagoas são relevantes para a conservação e preservação dessas espécies. Tais informações mostram a importância deste levantamento para futuros estudos de identificação preservação das espécies nativas, e em especial destas para nossa região.
