RESUMO Considerando que a qualidade ambiental de uma praia representa um dos principais fatores para sua atratividade para fins recreacionais, o presente trabalho tem como objetivo principal avaliar a qualidade ambiental das praias mais frequentadas na ilha de Itaparica. Com essa finalidade, foram coletadas amostras de água, areia e de resíduos sólidos durante o verão (alta estação) e o inverno (baixa estação). As análises de Coliformes Termotolerantes e Totais nos dois períodos analisados caracterizam as praias de Ponta de Itaparica, Ponta de Areia, Mar Grande e Conceição como próprias para recreação de contato primário, enquanto a praia de Barra Grande foi enquadrada como própria somente no período de baixa estação. Já a análise destes parâmetros para a areia indicou que todas as praias, na alta estação, estavam próprias para atividades de contato primário, contudo, no período de baixa estação, apenas a praia de Barra Grande obteve um resultado satisfatório. Foi encontrada grande quantidade de lixo nas praias amostradas, especialmente na alta estação, com o predomínio dos plásticos dentre os itens coletados. Os resultados mostram que a deficiência de infraestrutura de saneamento ambiental e o uso desordenado do seu litoral são os principais responsáveis pelo comprometimento da qualidade ambiental das praias de ilha de Itaparica.
A possibilidade de perda das praias arenosas em decorrência das mudanças climáticas em curso, tem atualmente despertado grandes preocupações. Saber qual a melhor resposta a essas mudanças é fundamental para a manutenção desses ambientes. Desta forma, visando contribuir com a gestão das praias de Mata de São João (BA), na prevenção de futuras perdas econômicas, este estudo tem como objetivo principal analisar as políticas de adaptação mais adequadas para estas praia. As políticas discutidas foram classificadas em três opções de adaptação: proteção, acomodação e recuo. Foram realizadas visitas de campo com caminhadas ao longo de toda a linha de costa de Mata de São João, contabilizando 26 km de descrição, observação e registros fotográficos. As caminhadas foram realizadas em dois períodos distintos, verão e inverno, e permitiu indicar a política de adaptação mais adequada para cada trecho da área estudada. A baixa ocupação na maior parte da sua linha de costa permite o estabelecimento de faixas de recuo seguindo recomendações do Ministério do Meio Ambiente em aproximadamente 92,8% da área estudada. Nos trechos com ocupação, as técnicas de proteção como alimentação praial, reabilitação do cordão arenoso e bagwall são as mais adequadas. Essas políticas permitirão o restabelecimento e a continuidade da funcionalidade destas praias.
O presente estudo tem como objetivo principal avaliar o potencial de prejuízos econômicos em função da densidade de ocupação e da sensibilidade à erosão costeira na praia de Porto do Sauipe. A metodologia foi baseada na detecção em campo da presença de indicadores de erosão e no número de construções fixas localizadas à beira-mar. Os parâmetros analisados foram classificados em três classes de intensidade: baixa, média e alta. Nos 8 km de linha de costa estudada, constatou-se que 57,1% dos trechos da praia de Porto do Sauipe apresentaram potencial médio de prejuízos econômicos, o que é encontrado em linha de costa com presença moderada de indicadores de erosão e de densidade de ocupação; 28,6%, potencial alto, com situação de linha de costa com a presença moderada de indicadores de erosão e densidade alta de ocupação; e 14,3%, potencial baixo, correspondendo a um único trecho da praia com presença baixa de indicadores de erosão e de densidade de ocupação. Os resultados desta pesquisa, embora de caráter preliminar, podem servir como subsídio na elaboração de um plano de uso e ocupação ao longo da praia de Porto do Sauipe.
