RESUMOINTRODUÇÃO P. aeruginosa são capazes de aderir e se desenvolver em quase todos os materiais, formando comunidades chamadas de biofilme. As etapas de formação incluem a fixação reversível em uma superfície, posterior aderência irreversível, crescimento de microcolônias, maturação do biofilme e dispersão de células para outras superfícies e materiais (FLICKINGER et al., 2011). Com o aumento da densidade celular nos biofilmes, ocorre uma alteração na expressão dos genes bacterianos através de um processo denominado quorum sensing (QS). O QS pode ser descrito em quatro etapas: (1) síntese de moléculas sinalizadoras de pequeno porte; (2) liberação dessas substâncias indutoras; (3) recepção destas moléculas por células adjacentes; e (4) alterações na regulação dos genes quando há aumento da indução simultânea (SANDOZ; MITZIMBERG; SCHUSTER, 2007). A alteração na expressão dos genes dentro do biofilme promove um aumento na produção de fatores de virulência pela comunidade (FLICKINGER et al., 2011). Neste estudo foi analisada a produção de ramnolipídeos, um dos fatores de virulência deste microrganismo, através do crescimento de Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 em cultivos em estado sólido sobre membrana de celulose bacteriana, em cultivos submersos e submersos estáticos. Este trabalho teve como objetivo o desenvolvimento de um modelo de estudo de virulência de P. aeruginosa PAO1 crescida sobre membrana de celulose bacteriana.
