Esta investigação tem como objetivos estudar as propriedades psicométricas da adaptação portuguesa da Children’s Automatic Thoughts Scale Negative/Positive (Cats-N/P) (Hogendoorn et al., 2010) e identificar diferenças, em função da idade e do sexo, no conteúdo dos pensamentos automáticos. Os dados foram obtidos em uma amostra não clínica de 330 crianças e adolescentes, entre os 10 e os 19 anos. A Cats-N/P apresentou uma estrutura de cinco fatores (visão negativa de si, ameaça social, pensamentos positivos, ameaça física e hostilidade) e boas consistências internas. Os resultados sugerem validade divergente e convergente: os jovens que reportam mais pensamentos positivos apresentam maior satisfação com a vida, ocorrendo o inverso nos jovens com mais pensamentos de visão negativa de si. Não se verificaram diferenças entre os grupos etários no conteúdo dos pensamentos automáticos; no entanto os pensamentos positivos são mais frequentes nos rapazes, e os pensamentos de visão negativa de si mais frequentes nas meninas.
