Social capital is a concept that describes good quality social relations that can lead to mutual benefits. The social capital theory thrives on relationships in networks to gain access to resources, especially information benefits not available to non-members of the network. The study reports the effects of social capital on firm performance. The study further examines the moderating role of entrepreneurial orientation in the relationship between social capital and firm performance; and the mediating role of dynamic capabilities in the relationship between social capital and firm performance. Using SmartPLS software 3.2.8 to analyze primary data collected from 787 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in Ghana, the results show that social capital has a positive and direct relationship with firm performance in Ghana. The findings suggest that EO moderates the relationship between social capital and firm performance. Again, dynamic capabilities mediate the relationship between social capital and firm performance. The study also provides managers with practical ways of building relationships within their networks for achieving competitive advantage in the current business environment.
Unemployment is one of the significant trends that hamper the economic development of the country and the well-being of people. However, the embracement of an entrepreneurship career is mainly conditioned by the high rate of unemployment and the nonsatisfaction of a current employee. Entrepreneurship career requires the development of an entrepreneurial mindset through an interactive process.Therefore the study aims to synthesize the finding of preview researches on the content and process of an entrepreneurial mindset. Hence the consolidation of the current state of the literature on entrepreneurial mindset concept to understand its origins, roots, and evolution. Scholars want to instill an entrepreneurial mindset to students at their youngest age. By doing so, they develop entrepreneurial experiences, skills, and abilities to overcome entrepreneurial challenges.This article offers a clear insight into the topic of an entrepreneurial mindset to ease individuals and organization involved in interactive entrepreneurial activities continuously.
Purpose In recent times, employers are routinely advertising for position candidates with the capability to work with little or no supervision at all. This is probably because, as businesses strive to globalize operations, supervision has become both complex and expensive. While the general interest in employees with considerable levels of work autonomy may be a strategic one, particularly for banks, it is important to determine the impact of work autonomy on other critical success factors such as employee commitment to change management, innovativeness and quality supervisor-subordinate relationship. This study aims to examine the relationship between these variables by exploring the mediation effect of work autonomy on the relationship between employee innovativeness, quality of supervisor-subordination collaboration and employee commitment to change management in the banking sector of Ghana. Design/methodology/approach The study used quantitative empirical strategies involving the distribution of questionnaires to a randomly selected sample of 400 employees of selected banks in Ghana. Data, so collected, were analysed using the PLS-SEM Software. Findings Results of the study revealed significant relationships between the quality of supervisor-subordinate collaboration, innovativeness and commitment to change. The findings further established work autonomy as an explanatory variable between the three employee behaviours – innovativeness, quality of supervisor-subordinate connection and commitment to change. Originality/value The novelty of this study lies in the interplay of quality employee relations, innovative employee behaviour and commitment to change processes as refereed by work autonomy to promote effective change management activities in Ghanaian banks. The outcome of the study led to the development of a theoretical model for organizational change management.
The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of leadership styles on academic performance in Junior High Schools (JHS) in Mampong in the Mampong Municipal Assembly of Ashanti Region in Ghana. The design for the study was a mixed study using both the qualitative and quantitative analyzes. It was a correlation survey designed to establish the relationship between leadership styles and academic performance in schools in Mampong in the Mampong Municipal Assembly. Data collected on the leadership styles of the school leaders were the independent variables and the academic performance as dependent variables. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 22 and Epi-Info, a data capturing and analysis software. The study noted that unless the headmasters are well equipped with knowledge and skills in leadership they would not know if they have any influence on their schools and on academic work. The study also established that even though respondents agreed that a leadership style can affect academic performance, the headmasters do not gain the confidence of the stakeholders enough in order to build terms that can enhance quality of teaching and learning. Based on these establishments, it was recommended that teacher training institutions should incorporate in their curriculum, training in the art and science of leadership in order to groom leaders’ right from school. Again, it is recommended that compulsory continuous professional development in leadership should be institutionalized in Ghana Education Service (GES) for headmasters.
<p><strong>Purpose </strong>– The study reports the factors influencing the production of local rice in Ghana with a moderating effect of open innovation to boost rice production. <br> <strong>Design/methodology/approach</strong> – This study employs a cross-sectional survey to gather the views of 250 rice farmers. A self-administered survey questionnaire was used to collect the data. The data was analyzed using SmartPLS software 3.2.8.<br> <strong>Findings</strong> – The study indicates that land tenure system, inadequate infrastructure and irrigation system are the factors influencing the production of local rice in Ghana. The findings suggest<br> that all four factors have a significant and positive effect on the production of rice. The study shows that there is a direct and positive relationship between open innovation and output of rice production in Ghana. Open innovation was found to moderate the positive relationship between infrastructure and rice output. Again, the relationship between land tenure system and rice production is moderated by open innovation. Furthermore, the relationship between irrigation and rice production is moderated by open innovation. <br> <strong>Practical implications</strong> – To improve rice production, the study therefore, recommend that, infrastructure is provided in the rice producing areas to enhance rice production by investing in the area of road networks, rice-milling equipment such as pre-cleaners, destoners that separate stones and heavy impurities from grains, hullers, polishers, paddy separators, aspirators and graders to ensure post-harvest product quality.<br> <strong>Originality/value</strong> – These findings offer a far-reaching approach to enhance the production of local rice in Ghana, in the quest to achieve food security. Old-fashioned agricultural methods are simply not sustainable enough to achieve food security for a rapidly growing population; hence, innovation is the way to go to achieved food security by investing in the agricultural sector. </p>
