Generar una definición universal de corrupción implica un enfrentamiento de situaciones contextuales y culturales, por esta razón, no existe un consenso universal sobre su definición. Este fenómeno es abarcado desde diferentes variables: sociales, culturales, económicas, políticas y psicológicas, donde enuncian, en su gran mayoría, una serie de prácticas calificadas como corruptas, las cuales han permeado en los sistemas de salud, entre ellos el sistema general de seguridad social en salud (SGSSS) de la República de Colombia. Dimensionar y cuantificar el impacto de la corrupción constituye un gran reto, estas practicas han generado impactos y repercusiones negativas en diferentes niveles, asociadas principalmente con indicadores de salud negativos; por esta razón estas practicas se han planteado como uno de los principales problemas de salud del país y uno de los gastos sanitarios no reducidos mas grandes del mundo, por tal razón se hizo necesario el diseño de una serie de propuestas de arreglos institucionales al SGSSS que dieran respuesta a la corrupción enmarcados en el modelo de salud colombiano. Se realizó un estudio con enfoque cualitativo vinculando representantes de los principales actores que componen el sector salud en Colombia , se comprobó que la corrupción está presente en el sistema de salud colombiano y es entendida por los diferentes actores de diversas maneras, causando afectaciones de diversas connotaciones.
