ABSTRAKSuspensi adalah suatu bentuk sediaan yang mengandung bahan obat padat dalam bentuk halus dan tidak larut. Doksisiklin merupakan antibiotik yang sukar larut dalam air. Suspensi doksisiklin stabil dalam waktu 2 minggu bila disimpan pada suhu ruang, stabil di udara tetapi akan berubah menjadi gelap bila terkena sinar matahari. Secara in vitro, kemampuannya sangat bagus dalam menghambat Staphylococcus aureus.Tujuan dilakukannya penelitian ini untuk mengevaluasi stabilitas fisik dan stabilitas daya antibakteri suspensi doksisiklin dengan PGA sebagai suspending agent. Kategori penelitian yang digunakan adalah : Variabel bebas = konsentrasi suspending agent (PGA) dan waktu penyimpanan suspensi. Variabel tergantung = stabilitas fisik (volume sedimentasi, viskositas, redispersibilitas, mudah tidaknya dituang, dan ukuran partikel) dan daya anti bakteri suspensi doksisiklin. Variabel kendali = cara pembuatan suspensi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan mengukur stabilitas fisik dan daya anti bakteri suspensi doksisiklin.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan suspensi doksisiklin dengan suspending agent PGA memiliki stabilitas fisik dan daya antibakteri yang baik. Uji stabilitas fisik menunjukkan bahwa formula 1 dengan kadar PGA 5% merupakan formula yang memiliki stabilitas fisik yang lebih baik daripada formula 2 dengan kadar PGA 7,5% dan formula 3 dengan kadar PGA 10%. Uji stabilitas daya antibakteri menunjukkan bahwa formula 2 paling baik dalam menghambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus.Kata kunci: suspensi doksisiklin, suspending agent pulvis gummi arabici, uji stabilitas fisik, daya antibakteri ABSTRACT Suspension is a dosage contain solid drug material with insoluble form and smooth. Doxycycline is an antibiotic which difficult dissolve in water. Stable doxycycline suspension during 2 week if it kept at space temperature, stable on the air but will change to be dark if it influence sunshine.The aim of the research to evaluate physical stability and ability antibacterial stability doxycycline suspension with PGA as suspending agent. Research category are: Independent variable : concentration of suspending agent (PGA), suspension holding time. Dependent variable: physical stability (sedimentation volume, viscosity, redispersibility, easy to pour, and particle size) and antibacterial of doxycycline suspension, and variabel control is temperature suspension making, create of suspension. Data collecting with measuring physical stability and ability antibacterial of doxycycline suspension.The result shows doxycycline suspension with suspending agent PGA had physical stability and antibacterial ability is good. Physical Stability test show formula 1 rate PGA 5% is formula had physical stability better than formula 2 with rate PGA 7,5% and formula 3 with DAFTAR PUSTAKA
