Human resources with good characters are badly needed in a national development. Hence, developing characters, especially the development of characters based on local wisdom is highly needed. This study was part of a study of local culture-based Physics model of teaching at senior high school, i.e., the need analysis and conceptual model prototype stage. The subjects were 20 physics teachers who had at least 10 years of teaching physics experience at public and private senior high schools in Singaraja, Bali. The study used questionnaire, observation guide, and interview as the instruments for collecting the data. The data were analyzed by a descriptivequalitative analysis. The result showed that (1) Nine Balinese local wisdom-based characters could be developed in physics teaching; (2) The method that is appropriate for the local wisdom-based development of characters is inquiry from various perspectives, discussion, and demonstration; (3) The core procedure of teaching that can develop the students' character are exploration, focusing attention, inquiry from various perspectives (scientific, sociocultural, historical), elaboration, and confirmation.
This research was aimed to analyze the effect of interaction between guided inquiry learning and cognitive style on students' science learning achievement. This study was a quasi-experiment with a 2×2 factorial design. The study was done with the fifth grade students in Singaraja City. The sample was selected using multi stage random sampling and 4 elementary schools were selected for the experimental group (n=132) and another 4 for the control group (n = 107). The experimental group used guided inquiry learning and the control group used conventional teaching model. The study used science learning achievement test and MFFT cognitive style test as the instruments for collecting the data. The result of hypothesis testing showed that: 1) there is a significant difference in science learning achievement between those who learned with guided inquiry learning model and those who learned with conventional teaching; and 2) there is a significant effect of interaction between guided inquiry learning model and cognitive style on students' science learning achievement. Guided inquiry learning is more optimal in increasing students' learning achievement if it is implemented to students with reflective cognitive style than to those with impulsive cognitive style.
This study aims to describe local wisdom on the island of Lombok that has the potential for ethnoscience to develop a learning model at Junior High School. This research uses a qualitative approach. The data collection method is done by using observation, interview, documentation, and literature study. The results showed that local wisdom on the island of Lombok that has the potential for ethnoscience is Sasak Sade Village, Bau Nyale Tradition, Sesek Weaving, Gendang Beleq, and Poteng Reket. Sasak Sade Village has a traditional house using certain sizes, namely length (Sedepa), width (Sesata), and height (Sprunjung). The Bau Nyale tradition is the hunting tradition of Nyale (sea worms). Sesek Weaving has various motifs and philosophies, various preparation processes, weaving and finishing processes to traditional waste utilization. Gendang Beleq is a traditional musical instrument made of animal skin and the two sides are closed, when it is hit the sound will bounce off the other side and go through a damping process so the resulting sound will sound smoother. Poteng Reket is a conventional biotechnology product. This local wisdom that has the potential for ethnoscience can be utilized in the development of learning models, especially in science subjects at Junior High School.
Pola pikir dalam pembelajaran IPA di sekolah dasar sepatutnya dimulai dari pendidik untuk meningkatkan literasi sains siswa sekolah dasar. Berkaitan dengan hal tersebut, tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah: 1) untuk mengetahui penyebab rendahnya literasi sains siswa sekolah dasar, 2) untuk mendeskripsikan alternatif solusi peningkatan literasi sains siswa sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan berupa studi kepustakaan. Hasil dari analisis yang dilakukan didapatkan bahwa faktor penyebab rendahnya literasi sains siswa adalah: a) penggunaan buku ajar yang belum tepat, b) miskonsepsi siswa, c) pembelajaran yang tidak kontekstual, d) rendahnya kemampuan membaca, e) lingkungan dan iklim belajar, f) infrastruktur sekolah, g) sumber daya manusia, h) manajemen sekolah. Berbagai upaya telah dilakukan oleh pemangku kebijakan dalam proses perbaikan literasi sains siswa untuk menjawab tantangan dari survey PISA dan TIMSS, begitu pun pada peningkatan hasil belajar IPA siswa. Upaya yang dilakukan oleh pemerintah sebagai solusi dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar IPA antara lain sebagai berikut: a) gerakan literasi sekolah, b) memberikan dana bantuan operasional sekolah, c) transformasi kepemimpinan sekolah, d) meningkatkan kompetensi guru, e) memperbaiki kurikulum, f) memperbaiki buku ajar, g) mengadakan asesmen kompetensi minimum, h) penggunaan platform digital.
