Background: Phenylketonuria (PKU)-the most common inherited disorder of amino acid metabolism, identified in Russia by neonatal screening. The results of dietary treatment demonstrate a positive effect. However, the quality of PKU patients life remains unknown. Objective: The aim of the study was to assess the quality of PKU children life in comparison with their healthy peers, also depending on the treatment onset and the patient's age. Methods: The study involved 64 pairs-PKU child and one of his parents. It was used the common questionnaire survey Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQLtm4.0, Varni et al., USA, 2001) and the program SPSS v. 14.0 (US) for statistical processing of the results. Results: The statistically significant (p <0.001) differences between PKU patients and healthy children in the physical, emotional, social and role functioning were found. The most pronounced differences were observed in the social (70 points vs 90 respectively) and role (57.5 vs 80 respectively) functioning. Maximum significant correlation (p <0.001) was installed between the social functioning of PKU patients and timing of the dietary treatment. Also the statistically significant interaction (p <0.05) was found between the role functioning, patient's age and treatment onset. The assessment points of social and role functioning were higher (p <0.05) in the PKU patients subgroup with early treatment initiation. Conclusion: These results confirmed the need of early diagnostics of PKU and initiation of dietary treatment, as well as the organization of timely psychological support for parents of sick children.
Aim. To assess the parameters and gender characteristics of the life quality of preschool children and the influence of a complex of factors on them.Material and methods. A study of the quality of life of 354 children was carried out. Ther were divided into two subgroups - younger (3-4 years old, 97 children) and senior preschool age (5-7 years old, 257 children). The PedsQL ™ 4.0 questionnaire was used to assess the QoL of children. Results and discussion. It was found that with age, the parameters of QOL increase on the scale of “emotional functioning”, and on the scale of “functioning in kindergarten” - decreases. The children of 5-7 years old themselves rated such aspects of QOL as emotional and role functioning significantly higher. Gender differences had specificitiesthe QOL of boys in the younger preschool group was higher in terms of emotional functioning. According to children, differences were established on the scale of “social functioning”, where this indicator was significantly higher in girls. The interrelation of various risk factors on the QOL indicators of children has proved to be valid.Conclusion. The results of the survey showed that parents tend to assess the QOL of their children in this age category somewhat lower than the children themselves. The results once again confirm the influence of various medical and social factors on the QOL of children.
Introduction. Currently, there are still problems in the rehabilitation of children with chronic diseases and children with disabilities, as well as in the establishment of the disability itself, which is primarily due to the lack of common criteria for describing the health, functioning of the child’s body, their disorders at different ages and assessing the effectiveness of rehabilitation measures. Purpose. To develop criteria of functioning disturbance in children suffered from various chronic disabling diseases in terms of quality of life. Materials and methods. By means of the developed Russian-language version of the standardized international questionnaire (HUI) applicable for children’s age, 832 children at the age of 5-17 years were examined (healthy children, children with chronic disabling diseases and the children in need of palliative care). Results. For the first time, domestic pediatrics profiles of functioning disturbance with the use of HUI questionnaire in healthy and sick children are developed. Indices of healthy children can be used as standard criteria. Juvenile idiopathic arthritis patients were revealed to have functioning disturbances in almost all aspects, except sight, hearing, and speech. In children with the heart diseases followed by chronic heart failure, the capability to move, cognitive abilities are disturbed, emotional violations and a pain syndrome were noted. Patients with cystic fibrosis had functioning disturbance concerned emotions and pain. The most expressed disturbances on all aspects included in the HUI questionnaire, except hearing, are noted in disabled children needing palliative care. Conclusion. The data can be used for obtaining information of impact of the disease on the activity of a child, extent of functioning disturbance on this or that aspect of quality of life, for development and assessment of efficiency of individual rehabilitation programs.

Performed studies testify to the importance of mammography examination of girls at different ages.
