Reduction of Fe2(mu-S2C3H6)(CO)6 (1) in tetrahydrofuran with 1 equiv of decamethylcobaltocene (Cp*2Co) affords a tetranuclear dianion 2. The IR spectra of samples of 2 in solution and in the solid state exhibit a band at 1736 cm(-1), suggestive of the presence of a bridging carbonyl (CO) ligand. X-ray crystallography confirms that the structure of 2 consists of two Fe2 units bridged by a propanedithiolate moiety formulated as [Fe2(mu-S2C3H6)(CO)5(SCH2CH2CH2-mu-S)Fe2(mu-CO)(CO)6](2-). One of the Fe2 units has a bridging CO ligand and six terminal CO ligands. The second subunit exhibits a bridging propanedithiolate moiety. One CO ligand has been replaced by a terminal thiolate ligand, replicating the basic architecture of Fe-only hydrogenases. The reduction reaction can be reversed by treatment of 2 with 2 equiv of [Cp2Fe][PF6], reforming complex 1 in near-quantitative yield. Complex 2 can also be oxidized by acids such as p-toluenesulfonic acid, regenerating complex 1 and forming H2.
The use of nanoparticles in oncology to deliver chemotherapeutic agents has received considerable attention in the last decades due to their tendency to be passively accumulated in solid tumors. Besides this remarkable property, the surface of these nanocarriers can be decorated with targeting moieties capable to recognize malignant cells which lead to selective nanoparticle uptake mainly in the diseased cells, without affecting the healthy ones. Among the different nanocarriers which have been developed with this purpose, inorganic porous nanomaterials constitute some of the most interesting due to their unique properties such as excellent cargo capacity, high biocompatibility and chemical, thermal and mechanical robustness, among others. Additionally, these materials can be engineered to present an exquisite control in the drug release behavior placing stimuli‐responsive pore‐blockers or sensitive hybrid coats on their surface. Herein, the recent advances developed in the use of porous inorganic nanomedicines will be described in order to provide an overview of their huge potential in the look out of an efficient and safe therapy against this complex disease. Porous inorganic nanoparticles have been designed to be accumulated in tumoral tissues; once there to recognize the target cell and finally, to release their payload in a controlled manner.
Abstract.Sudden and transient decreases of ozone column values were detected over the midlatitudes of South America during the springs of 1996 and 1997 by a network of ground instruments. These low-ozone events were accompanied by air temperature decreases in the lower stratosphere. The analysis of the events suggests a connection with the springtime Antarctic ozone hole. Three-dimensional isentropic back trajectories showed that vertical motion also contributed to the decreases of total ozone observed at the midlatitudes of South America.
IntroductionThe ozone hole is considered to be a phenomenon well located in space and time which has appeared every spring over
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
