As proteins are synthesized, the nascent polypeptide must pass through a negatively charged exit tunnel. During this stage, positively charged stretches can interact with the ribosome walls and slow the translation. Therefore, charged polypeptides may be important factors that affect protein expression. To determine the frequency and distribution of positively and negatively charged stretches in different proteomes, the net charge was calculated for every 30 consecutive amino acid residues, which corresponds to the length of the ribosome exit tunnel. The following annotated and reviewed proteins in the UniProt database (Swiss-Prot) were analyzed: 551,705 proteins from different organisms and a total of 180 million protein segments. We observed that there were more negative than positive stretches and that super-charged positive sequences (i.e., net charges ≥ 14) were underrepresented in the proteomes. Overall, the proteins were more positively charged at their N-termini and C-termini, and this feature was present in most organisms and subcellular localizations. To investigate whether the N-terminal charges affect the elongation rates, previously published ribosomal profiling data obtained from S. cerevisiae, without translation-interfering drugs, were analyzed. We observed a nonlinear effect of the charge on the ribosome occupancy in which values ≥ +5 and ≤ -6 showed increased and reduced ribosome densities, respectively. These groups also showed different distributions across 80S monosomes and polysomes. Basic polypeptides are more common within short proteins that are translated by monosomes, whereas negative stretches are more abundant in polysome-translated proteins. These findings suggest that the nascent peptide charge impacts translation and can be one of the factors that regulate translation efficiency and protein expression.

ResumoA adubação assume papel fundamental na fase de produção de mudas de frutíferas, a fim de garantir bom desenvolvimento e precocidade de produção. Objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos de doses de nitrogênio e potássio no crescimento de mudas de goiabeira. Estacas herbáceas de goiabeiras, cultivar "Paluma", foram enraizadas em câmara de nebulização, em sacos de polietileno contendo substrato. O experimento foi conduzido em viveiro comercial, em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 4 x 4, sendo quatro doses de nitrogênio (0, 552, 828 e 1.104 mg dm -3 ) e quatro doses de potássio (0, 726, 1.089 e 1.452 mg dm -3 ), com três repetições e três plantas por parcela. No enchimento dos sacos (1,5 dm -3 ), foram adicionados 100 mg dm -3 de P, enquanto os adubos contendo nitrogênio e potássio foram parcelados em três vezes. As mudas foram avaliadas aos 120 dias. Observou-se efeito significativo do nitrogênio nas variáveis altura, diâmetro do caule, número de folhas, índice SPAD, massa seca de folhas, caule, total, índice de qualidade de Dickson e acúmulo de N. A adubação com potássio não promoveu diferenças significativas nos parâmetros biométricos, índice SPAD e IQD. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of nitrogen and potassium on the growth of guava seedlings. Herbaceous stakes of guava, "Paluma" cultivar, were rooted in a mist room, in polyethylene bags containing substrate. The experiment was conducted in a commercial nursery, in randomized blocks and a factorial scheme 4x4, with four doses of nitrogen (0, 552, 828 and 1104 mg dm -3 ) and four doses of potassium (0, 726, 1,089 and 1,452 mg dm -3 ) in three replications and three plants for parcel. During the filling of the bags (1,5 dm -3 ), were added 100 mg dm -3 of superphosphate, while fertilizers containing nitrogen and potassium were split into three times. After 120 days, the seedlings were evaluated. There was a significant effect of nitrogen in the variables height, stem diameter, number of leaves, SPAD index, dry weight of leaves, stems, total, Dickson quality index, and nitrogen accumulation. The fertilization with potassium did not influence the biometric parameters, SPAD index and Dickson quality index.

It has been proposed that polybasic peptides cause slower movement of ribosomes through an electrostatic interaction with the highly negative ribosome exit tunnel. Ribosome profiling data-the sequencing of short ribosome-bound fragments of mRNA-is a powerful tool for the analysis of mRNA translation. Using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model, we showed that reduced translation efficiency associated with polybasic protein sequences could be inferred from ribosome profiling. However, an increase in ribosome density at polybasic sequences was evident only when the commonly used translational inhibitors cycloheximide and anisomycin were omitted during mRNA isolation. Since ribosome profiling performed without inhibitors agrees with experimental evidence obtained by other methods, we conclude that cycloheximide and anisomycin must be avoided in ribosome profiling experiments.

RESUMOConduziu-se este experimento com o objetivo de avaliar o crescimento de mudas tipo pé-franco de pitangueira em diferentes substratos com utilização de superfosfato simples conduzidos em um viveiro de formação de mudas localizado no Campus da Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA), Minas Gerais. Foram estudadas quatro doses de superfosfato simples 0; 2,5; 5 e 10 kg m -3 de substrato e duas misturas de substratos: A (composto orgânico + areia + solo, na proporção de 1:1:3 em volume) e B (Plantmax â + areia + solo, na proporção de 1:1:3 em volume). O delineamento experimental utilizado foi blocos ao acaso em esquema fatorial 4 x 2, com 4 repetições e cinco plantas por parcela. Quando as mudas estavam em condições de serem enviadas a campo foram avaliadas pelas seguintes variáveis: altura da muda (cm); comprimento de raiz (cm), número de folha/planta, matéria seca da parte aérea, da raiz e total (g/planta). Com base nos resultados verificou-se que para a formação de mudas pé-franco de pitangueira, recomenda-se incorporar ao substrato o fertilizante superfosfato simples em dose de até 6 kg m -3 no substrato. ABSTRACTThis experiment was carried out in a nursery at orchard of Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), Minas Gerais state; in order to evaluate the growth seedling of Surinam cherry in different substrates using the simple super phosphate. The study involved four doses of simple super phosphate 0; 2, 5; 5 e 10 kg m -3 . and two substrates mix: A (organic compost + sand + soil in 1:1:3 volume proportion) and B ( Plantmax + sand + soil 1:1:3 volume proportion) A randomized block design was used with factorial scheme 4x2, with four replications and five plants by plot. The plants were evaluated when they were in field condition by the following characteristic: high of plants (cm); length of root (cm); number of leaves/plant, dry matter of aerial part, root and total (g/plant). Through the results was verify that in seedling of Surinam cherry, it is recommended to mix to the substrate the fertilizer simple super phosphate until the dose 6 kg m -3 . Both substrates A or B are recommended for seedling of Surinam cherry.

RESUMO -A correção da acidez superficial e subsuperficial do solo, em especial para culturas perenes, é fundamental para garantir o rápido estabelecimento do pomar e a precocidade da produção de frutos. O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar os efeitos da calagem na implantação e formação de um pomar de caramboleiras (Averrhoa carambola) e seus reflexos no solo, na planta, na produção de frutos, bem como determinar a duração do efeito residual da aplicação inicial do calcário. O experimento foi realizado na Estação Experimental de Citricultura de Bebedouro, São Paulo, em um Latossolo Vermelho distrófico (V inicial = 26% na camada de 0-20cm), no período de agosto/1999 a julho/2006. As doses de calcário empregadas foram: 0; 1,85; 3,71; 5,56 e 7,41 t ha -1 . Durante 78 meses após a aplicação do corretivo, foram realizadas análises químicas de solo, bem como a avaliação do estado nutricional e da produção de frutos durante cinco safras agrícolas. A calagem proporcionou melhoria das características químicas do solo, elevando o pH, Ca, Mg, V% e diminuindo o H+Al, até 60 cm de profundidade. Os teores foliares de Ca e Mg aumentaram, correlacionando-se positivamente com a produção de frutos. A maior produção acumulada de carambolas esteve associada à saturação por bases de 40 e 53% na linha e na entrelinha do pomar de caramboleiras, respectivamente. REPONSE OF STAR FRUIT TREES TO LIMINGABSTRACT -The correction of the superficial and subsurface acidity of the soil, especially for perennial crops, is essential to ensure the fast establishment of the orchard and the early production of fruits. The present work aimed to evaluate the effects of liming in the implantation and formation of a star fruit orchard (Averrhoa carambola) and its reflections in the soil, the plant, the fruit production, as well as determining the duration of the residual effect of the initial application of the calcareous rock. The experiment was conducted at the Citrus Experimental Station in Bebedouro, São Paulo, in a Typic Haplustox (V initial = 26% in the 0 to 20 cm layer) between August 1999 and July 2006. The doses of limestone were: 0, 1.85, 3.71, 5.56 and 7.41 t ha -1 . During 78 months after the implementation of the corrective soil chemical analyses were performed as well as the evaluation of the nutritional status and the fruit production during five agricultural harvests. The liming provided the improvement of the chemical characteristics of the soil, raising pH, Ca, Mg, V% and reducing the H+Al, down to 60 cm deep. The leaf levels of Ca and Mg increased, correlating itself positively with the fruit yield. The highest combined star fruit production was associated with base saturation of 40 and 53% in the line and between the line of the star fruit orchard, respectively. Resumo -Objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos da aplicação de calcário e boro nos atributos químicos de um Latossolo, estado nutricional e produtividade da cultura do feijoeiro. As doses de calcário empregadas foram crescentes, considerando-se a saturação por bases igual a 70%, correspondendo às doses: zero; 0,6; 1,2 (v = 70%); 1,8 e 2,4 t ha -1. O calcário utilizado apresentava poder relativo de neutralização total (PRNT), poder de neutralização (PN) e reatividade (RE) de 131; 137 e 95%, respectivamente. As doses de boro estudadas foram iguais a 0 (zero); 0,6; 1,2; 1,8; e 2,4 mg dm -3 de B, sendo a referência para definição das mesmas a de 1,2 mg dm -3 de B (ou 1,2 kg ha -1 de B). Utilizou-se como fonte o ácido bórico (H 3 BO 3 ) p.a. (17% B). Na época do florescimento foi avaliado o estado nutricional das plantas e, aos 90 dias foram avaliadas a fertilidade do solo e a produção de grãos. No solo houve melhoria dos atributos pH, SB, V e na concentração de Ca e Mg, e do B com o emprego da adubação boratada. A interação da calagem com a adubação boratada promoveu maior acúmulo de Ca, Mg e B nas plantas. Os dados apresentados demonstram que o feijoeiro foi responsivo à calagem e à adubação boratada, tendo atingido bons índices de produção com a utilização de 1,8 kg ha -1 de B com doses crescentes de calcário. Abstract -The objective was to study the application of lime and boron on the chemical in an Oxisol in the nutritional status and yield. The doses of limestone were increasing, considering the saturation of bases 70%, corresponding doses: zero, 0.6; 1.2 (saturation of bases = 70%), 1.8 and 2.4 t ha -1 , respectively. The lime used had relative power of total neutralization (PRNT) = 131% (neutralization power, PN = 137% and reactivity, RE = 95%). The boron doses studied were equal to 0 (zero), 0.6; 1.2; 1.8, and 2.4 mg dm -3 of B, with reference to the definition of the same 1.2 mg dm -3 B (or 1.2 kg ha -1 B). It was used as a source boric acid (H 3 BO 3 ) (17% B). At the time of flowering was assessed the nutritional status of plants and, at 90 days were evaluated soil fertility and yield. There was improvement in soil pH of the attributes, SB, V and the concentration of Ca and Mg, and B with the use of boron fertilization. The interaction of lime with boron fertilization increased the concentration of Ca, Mg and B in plants. The data presented demonstrate that the common bean was responsive to liming and boron fertilization, reaching good production rates with the use of 1.8 kg ha -1 of B with increasing doses of lime.

RESUMOObjetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar os efeitos de diferentes ambientes e doses de Osmocote na produção de mudas de tamarindeiro (Tamarindus indica L). Um experimento foi instalado no Pomar da Universidade Federal de Lavras-MG, empregandose delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 3 x 4, com quatro repetições e cinco plantas por parcela. Os tratamentos se constituíram dos diferentes ambientes de formação de mudas (casa de vegetação, telado e a céu aberto) e de quatro doses de Osmocote : 0; 3; 6 e 9 kg m -3 de substrato. Avaliaram-se a altura da muda (cm), comprimento da raiz (cm), número de folhas/ planta, matéria seca da parte aérea (g), matéria seca da raiz (g) e a matéria seca total (g). Os resultados demonstraram que o Osmocote (15-10-10) pode ser recomendado para a formação de mudas de tamarindo, em doses de até 6,0 kg.m -3 . An experiment was carried out in a nursery at Universidade Federal de Lavras, Brazil, arranged in a randomized complete block outline and a 3x4 factorial scheme, with four replications and five plants per plot. The treatments were constituted by greenhouse, nursery and exposed sky, using different dosages of Osmocote (15-10-10) were 0; 3; 6 e 9 kg m -3 of substrate. Seedling growth, height, number of leaves, aerial part, root and total dry matter were evaluated. The results showed that of Osmocote (15-10-10) can be recommended for the formation of tamarind seedlings, at doses of until 6 kg m -3 . Sky exposing was the one which provided better quality to the seedlings.
