Zusammenfassung. Bildvorlagen werden bei Intelligenz- und Leistungstests als Testitems oder als Lösungsvarianten verwendet. Sie werden aber auch speziell dazu eingesetzt, um Instruktionen zu illustrieren oder verständlicher zu machen. Neuere Untersuchungen lassen jedoch den Schluß zu, daß Bilddarstellungen nicht nur Illustrationscharakter haben, sondern den Lösungsprozeß selbst deutlich beeinflussen. Am Beispiel einer Lautsyntheseaufgabe wird belegt, daß das Antwortverhalten von Vorschulkindern ohne Schriftsprachkenntnisse in hohem Maße von der Eindeutigkeit der Bildinformation abhängt. Vorschulkinder wählen offensichtlich die prominente Lauteinheit der Lautfolge aus und versuchen, diese dem Klang der von ihnen für das Bildmaterial verwendeten Wortbezeichnungen zuzuordnen. Dabei zeigt sich eine große Abhängigkeit der Lösungen von der Bildeindeutigkeit und Klangähnlichkeit der Wortbezeichnungen. Die Ergebnisse unterstreichen nachhaltig die Notwendigkeit, die Funktion von Bildvorlagen bei Tests zu überprüfen.
