Abstract-This paper presents a novel optimization technique biogeography based optimization (BBO) for antenna array synthesis. BBO is a relatively new evolutionary global optimization technique based on the science of biogeography. It is capable of solving linear and non-linear problems. In this paper, BBO algorithm is used to determine an optimum set of amplitudes of antenna elements that provide a radiation pattern with maximum side lobe level reduction and/or null placement in the specified directions. The results obtained show the effectiveness of the BBO algorithm, and they are better than previous published results.
Though various types of force transducers have been developed over many years, research is continuing through the globe regarding the development of different types of force transducers. The present paper discusses the development of square ring shaped force transducers and their metrological characterization based on the calibration procedures according to standards ISO 376:2004 and IS: 4169-1988 (reaffirmed 2003). The force transducers have been developed as a modification of ring shaped force transducers and strain gauges have been mounted on suitable locations. The force transducers have been studied analytically and computationally. The force transducers are found to have good metrological characteristics and further efforts are being focused on improving the metrological characteristics of force transducers.
Additive manufacturing (AM) is a rapidly growing technology with promising results and challenges. The aim of this study is to optimize the process parameters of fused deposition modeling (FDM) by exploring the wear performance of Polylactic acid (PLA). In this work, variation of process parameters like layer thickness, orientation and extruder temperature has been investigated. Based on these parameters wear specimen (accordance to ASTM G99) was printed by using FDM. The wear behavior of polymer pin under low sliding speed was investigated. Taguchi Design of experiments by using L9 orthogonal array is applied to optimize the process parameters at which minimum wear rate is obtained and the same has also been investigated by using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and artificial neural network (ANN) technique for rigorous validation / optimization. Results shows that build orientation have major influence on the wear performance of polymer pin. The paper is presented with the display of results, discussion, and conclusions drawn.

AbstractWe describe our successful initiative to accelerate Adobe Illustrator with the graphics hardware pipeline of modern GPUs. Relying on OpenGL 4.4 plus recent OpenGL extensions for advanced blend modes and first-class GPU-accelerated path rendering, we accelerate the Adobe Graphics Model (AGM) layer responsible for rendering sophisticated Illustrator scenes. Illustrator documents render in either an RGB or CMYK color mode. While GPUs are designed and optimized for RGB rendering, we orchestrate OpenGL rendering of vector content in the proper CMYK color space and accommodate the 5+ color components required. We support both non-isolated and isolated transparency groups, knockout, patterns, and arbitrary path clipping. We harness GPU tessellation to shade paths smoothly with gradient meshes. We do all this and render complex Illustrator scenes 2 to 6x faster than CPU rendering at Full HD resolutions; and 5 to 16x faster at Ultra HD resolutions.
