The static and dynamic economic dispatch problems are solved by creating an enhanced version of ant lion optimisation (ALO), namely a tournament selection-based ant lion optimisation (TALO) method. The proposed algorithm is presented to solve the combined economic and emission dispatch (CEED) problem with considering the generator constraints such as ramp rate limits, valvepoint effects, prohibited operating zones and transmission loss. The proposed algorithm’s efficiency was tested using a 5-unit generating system in MATLAB R2021a during a 24-hour time span. When compared to previous optimization methods, the suggested TALO reduces the costs of fuel and pollution by 9.01 and 4.7 percent, respectively. Furthermore, statistical analysis supports the suggested TALO optimization superiority over other methods. It is observed that the renewable energy output can be stabilized in the future by combining a hybrid dynamic economic and emission dispatch model with thermal power units, wind turbines, solar and energy storage devices to achieve the balance between operational costs and pollutant emissions.

This paper work present one of the latest meta heuristic optimization approaches named whale optimization algorithm as a new algorithm developed to solve the economic dispatch problem. The execution of the utilized algorithm is analyzed using standard test system of IEEE 30 bus system. The proposed algorithm delivered optimum or near optimum solutions. Fuel cost and emission costs are considered together to get better result for economic dispatch. The analysis shows good convergence property for WOA and provides better results in comparison with PSO. The achieved results in this study using the above-mentioned algorithm have been compared with obtained results using other intelligent methods such as particle swarm Optimization. The overall performance of this algorithm collates with early proven optimization methodology, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The minimum cost for the generation of units is obtained for the standard bus system.

In this paper, honey bee algorithm is proposed to optimise the economic and emission dispatch problems in power systems effectively. This optimization method focuses the global solution in a sense that a generation company need carry out the cost reduction and emission reduction under competitive environment. In recent years increasing of thermal power plants air pollution and concentration of carbon dioxide emission leads to the global warming. This paper solves the economic dispatch and the combined economic and emission dispatch problem considering both ramp rate and valve point loading effect.
