Es wurden die Verbrennungs‐ und Sublimationsenthalpien von 9,10‐Dimethylphenanthren, 5,6‐Dimethylchrysen, 9,10‐Dimethyl‐1,2‐benzanthracen, ferner von 4,5,6‐Trimethyl‐2,3‐benzoxalen, 6‐Phenyl‐2,3‐benzoxalen, 2,3;5,6‐Dibenzoxalen und N‐Methyl‐2,3;5,6‐dibenzazalen bestimmt und hieraus die Bildungsenthalpien der gasförmigen Verbindungen unter Standardbedingungen sowie die Mesomerieenergien ermittelt. Die Mesomerieenergien der mehrkernigen Aromaten lassen erkennen, in welchem Maße die jeweilige Methylsubstitution die Mesomerie beeinflußt. Im Fall der Pseudoazulene ändert sie sich linear mit den auf der Grundlage der HMO‐Methode berechneten Delokalisierungsenergien.
