Revista Brasileira de Odontologia Erosão dental ocupacional: aspectos clínicos e tratamentoOccupational dental erosion: clinical aspects and prevention ARTIGO DE REVISÃO DE LITERATURA/ODONTOLOGIA DO TRABALHO :: Introdução E rosão dental é definida como um fenômeno químico, sem a presença de bactérias, que pode resultar na perda do esmalte e da dentina devido à exposição frequente/crônica a ácidos intrínsecos ou extrínsecos. 1,2 Além de afetar esmalte e dentina, a erosão pode acometer regiões em oclusão ou não. Quando os ácidos entram em contato com a superfície dental difundem-se através da película adquirida e os íons hidrogênio dos ácidos dissolvem os cristais do esmalte. Primeiro a periferia dos prismas é dissolvida e, em seguida, o núcleo. Posteriormente, os ácidos penetram nas áreas interprismáticas do esmalte e, eventualmente, abaixo da superfície. Este fato cria uma aparência de favo de mel nos primeiros estágios da erosão. Em função desta desmineralização, qualquer agressão mecânica inviabiliza a remineralização, promovendo desgaste dental. 3,4 O diagnóstico diferencial entre as chamadas lesões não cariosas, tais como: erosão, abrasão, atrição, e abfração, é complexo, já que muitas vezes as mesmas coexistem. Entretanto, quanto mais precoce a identificação dos fatores causais, menores os danos estabelecidos. 5Estudos epidemiológicos relatam que a prevalência desta doença varia de acordo com o tempo, condição socioeconô-mica, fatores relacionados à saúde geral, idade, hábitos, área estudada, cultura e profissões.6,7 Devido a exposições ácidas durante sua atividade laboral, alguns profissionais apresentam maior risco à erosão dental. 8,9 O objetivo deste trabalho é, através de uma revisão da literatura, elucidar o que é a erosão dental ocupacional assim como evidenciar os principais grupos de trabalhadores expostos à mesma. Além disto, serão discutidas as características clínicas desta doença e as maneiras de preveni-la. Material e MétodosRealizou-se uma pesquisa nas bases de dados PubMed/Medline, Portal Capes e Scielo, utilizando-se as palavras-chaves: occupational, dental e erosion. Os critérios de inclusão foram artigos em português e inglês, em sua versão completa. Artigos publicados antes do ano 2000 e que não tratavam diretamente do tema, foram excluídos. Revisão de Literatura Lesões Não CariosasAs lesões que promovem perda de estrutura dental não relacionada a processos cariosos são chamadas de não cariosas e podem ocorrer devido a eventos químicos ou mecânicos.10 As mais comuns são: erosão, atrição, abrasão e abfração.
