Résumé
Trois questions sont abordées: les familles se sont-elles transformées entre le milieu des années 1970 et le milieu des années 1980? Quelles sont les caractéristiques du système familial qui rendent le mieux compte de l'activité délictueuse? L'explication de l'activité illicite varie-t-elle selon le sexe des adolescents? Pour répondre à ces questions nous avons utilisé deux enquêtes conduites auprès d'adolescents montréalais en 1984 et en 1985.
La structure de la famille s'est modifiée dans le sens de la monoparentalité, ses conditions de vie se sont détérioriées, les contrôles se sont raffermis mais les relations affectives sont demeurées de même nature. Nous avons trouvé que les composantes du système familial s'articulent selon un modèle précis: la rébellion précède l'activité délinquante; les méthodes didactiques filtrent l'influence des autres facteurs familiaux ; le fonctionnement psychosocial de la famille et la conjugalité suivent comme facteurs précipitants; finalement, les conditions structurales s'affirment comme des facteurs lointains. En dernier lieu, nous avons observé beaucoup de ressemblance entre les garçons et les filles quant aux facteurs primordiaux de la conduite délinquante.
Au terme de notre démarche, nous suggérons des implications pratiques, en particulier une stratégie de diagnostic des problèmes familiaux, complétée par une stratégie d'intervention selon les types de problèmes.
