Este trabalho analisa o processo de formação de propriedades rurais no movimento de ocupação de terras ocorrido em Una, sul da Bahia (Brasil), na primeira metade do século XIX. A principal fonte documental utilizada, o livro dos Registros Paroquiais de Terras da Freguesia de Olivença (1857-1860), da qual a Paróquia de Santo Antônio da Barra de Una era uma capela subsidiária, permitiu a identificação de perto de uma centena de moradores, assim como a análise dos regimes de posse e propriedade e das tipologias agrárias presentes naquele território. Esta zona de ocupação se expandiu para a proximidade das terras indígenas de Olivença, o que enseja nesse estudo a análise do problema da fronteira, a qual, ao tempo em que atua como um limite territorial, também configura uma área de contato interétnico. No caso em foco, essa dinâmica resultou em diferentes estratégias de apropriação de terras e recursos florestais.Palavras-chave: fronteira agrícola; ocupação territorial; terras indígenas
Este artigo toma como objetos os relatos de Hans Staden, André Thevet, Jean de Léry e Anthony Knivet sobre suas passagens, no século XVI, pelas terras do que viria a ser o Brasil. Analisando comparativamente tais textos, observamos como as diferentes realidades histórico-culturais em concorrência na Europa moldaram perspectivas ora convergentes ora conflitantes sobre um mesmo tema: o indígena, seus hábitos e costumes. Para a análise, mobilizamos as ideias de topoi ou tópicas do discurso, baseando-nos em Hansen (2013; 2021), assim como a noção de lutas de representação, teorizada por Chartier (1991; 2002), articulando-as a estudos sobre a história e mentalidade coloniais, entre outros. Concluímos que, nos discursos dos viajantes, o lugar comum do indígena é sede de argumentação em prol do grupo ao qual pertence o enunciador do discurso, que lança mão de opiniões pré-concebidas e aceitas pela sua comunidade como verdadeiras.
