Cover storyOur colorful cover features represent the infiltration of M1 phenotype macrophages in cardiac tissue with EAM acquired by immunofluorescence. M1 phenotype macrophages can be discriminated by anti-F4/80, anti-CD86 and DAPI. The image is taken from , where the authors show that fibroblast transdifferentiation induced selective apoptosis of M1 macrophages through TNF/TNFR1, and the conversion of surviving CCR2 + macrophages into CX3CR1 + M2 and their settlement in the heart, which are dependent on the leptin-PI3K or leptin-Akt pathway. The image is obtained from one of two independent experiments and the color of the image has been digitally altered for the cover.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
