ABSTRACTThe present study focuses on popular housing in the city of Rio de Janeiro, an issue that is getting worse over the years, as can be seen in the high quantitative population of clusters subnormal (IBGE, 2010). It is a part of the dissertation in the Program of Urban Engineering at UFRJ that you want to analyze briefly the progress of housing policy in Rio de Janeiro. From the investigation of these policies, the research aims to assess whether such public actions favor or minimize residential segregation, and identify the consequences of these actions for urban engineering. Result of a comparative methodology between the current public policies and their predecessors, the work is developed with the support of an interdisciplinary bibliography. In order to contextualize the issue of Rio's popular housing became necessary to explore some of the urban actions carried, such as the reform of Pereira Passos and recognition of the slums, by approval of the social function of property in the Federal Constitution of 1988. The period of the latter ev...
