The ratio of the concentration of pyruvic acid to that of its hydrate (2,2-dihydroxypropanoic acid) has been determined from the ratio of the intensities of their methyl resonances at 60 Mclsec. The kinetics of the hydration of pyruvic acid have been studied ; the hydrogen-ion-dependent rate constant of the hydration is 5.6 1. mole-I sec-1, and that of the dehydration 8.7 1. mole-1 sec-1. The results generally confirm the conclusions dawn from a limited study of these phenomena at 28 Mclsec.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
