SUMMARY:The okra cultivated in larger spacing is characterised by the emission of lateral branches, which is less frequent when it increases the density of plants. For this reason the objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of different spacing between lines and between plants on vegetative development and production of the okra ´Santa Cruz 47´ e ´Colhe Bem IAC´. We applied a randomized block design in a 2x4 factorial design, we evaluated two cultivars (´Santa Cruz 47´ e ´Colhe Bem IAC´), two row spacings (1.00 and 1.20 m) and four spacings between plants (0.10, 0.20, 0.30, 0.40 m, constituting 16 treatments with three replications. The spacing between plants affected the vegetative growth of the plants and fruit production. The increased density of plants reduced the number of productive stems and consequently resulted in a lower weight and number of fruits per plant, however, provided the best performance.
