Dieser Artikel analysiert vor dem Hintergrund post-fordistischer Transformationen und der wenigen Studien zu Österreich das Verhältnis digitaler Formen politischer Beteiligung und traditioneller Formen politischer und medialer Repräsentationen von Jugendlichen. Unsere Fragestellung untersuchen wir aus frameanalytischer Perspektive und greifen auf Daten zurück, die wir im Zuge einer Medienanalyse und partizipativen Ethnografie rund um die Gemeinderatswahl 2020 in Niederösterreich erhoben haben. Wir erörtern (Selbst-)Repräsentationen und Formen der Partizipation von Jugendlichen entlang von drei Dimensionen: Jugend und Lokalpolitik, Jugend und Klima und Jugend als digitale Akteur*innen. Dabei zeigen wir, dass politische Praktiken von Jugendlichen vornehmlich von latenten Formen der Beteiligung – offline und online – geprägt sind und streichen die Rolle von Memes als digitale Praktik hervor. Unser Artikel leistet einen Beitrag zur Frage, wie Öffentlichkeit im Zeitalter digitaler Plattformen entsteht und wie junge Menschen dazu beitragen. Dabei verweisen unsere Ergebnisse vor allem auf die viel besprochene Tendenz einer Individualisierung politischer Beteiligung im Kontext von Digitalisierung.
