Sinopse É descrita com ilustrações, a fêmea do Rhodnius amazonicus sp. n., baseados em um único exemplar capturado em Manaus, Amazonas, Brasil. A nova espécie foi comparada com a espécie mais próxima, Rhodnius pictipes, proveniente do mesmo Estado.
Triatomíneos da Amazônia n Encontro de três espécies naturalmente infectadas por Trypanosoma semelhante ao cruzi, no Estado do Amazonas (Hemiptera, reduviidae).
Resumo Os autores relatam o primeiro caso autóctone de Doença de Chagas na Amazônia Ocidental, na localidade de Boa Esperança, Município de São Paulo de Olivença, diagnosticado em u'a menor de 4 anos de idade, que nunca saiu do referido município. O exame que os levou ao achado fora feito para pesquisa de Plasmodium no mês de outubro de 1979. onde foram evidenciadas inúmeras formas flageladas semelhantes ao T. cruzi. Foram feitos dois Xenodiagnósticos com ninfas de 4.° e 5° estágios de R. prolixus, obtendo-se confirmação da infecção pelo T. cruzi.
Sinopse Triatomíneos adultos foram capturados na Reserva Ducke, Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, à Estrada Manaus-Itacoatiara, km 26. Os insetos foram identificados como Panstrongylus geniculatus (Latreille, 1811), Rhodnius pictipes Stal, 1859 e Eratyrus mucronatus Stal, 1859, espécies já encontradas anteriormente no Estado do Amazonas. No conteúdo intestinal de cinco dos sete Panstrongylus geniculatus, bem como no único E. mucronatus, foram encontrados flagelados. O material obtido do P. geniculatus foi inoculado em macaco de cheiro (Saimiri sciureus) e cão (Canis familiaris). O primeiro morreu aos 9 dias tendo sido negativos as pesquisas de tripanossomos no sangue e nas vísceras. O cão apresentou exames positivos do 9º até 15º dia, quando morreu. Sangue cardíaco do cão foi inoculado num preá (Cavia aperea), que por sua vez apresentou flagelados no sangue do 5º até o 13º dia quando morreu. Pelo aspecto e localização dos flagelados nos barbeiros, infectividade para cão e preá e morfologia no sangue e impressões do coração dêstes, identificamos como Trypanosoma cruzi os parasitos achados nos P. geniculatus.
Resumo Em área do Estado do Amazonas (Município de Barcelos) onde recentemente foram assinalados seis casos humanos suspeitos de moléstia de Chagas por sorologia positiva, procuramos o Trypanosoma cruzi em 35 pessoas, 9 cães domésticos e 71 mamíferos silvestres. Todos foram negativos para tripanosomas, exceto 6 morcegos de quatro espécies, que albergavam flagelados com características do subgênero Schizotrypanum: Carollia perspicilata, Glossophaga soricina, Desmodus rotundus e Mollossidae sp. Cultura do flagelado de um dos G. soricina infectou camundongo, caráter que o aproxima do T. cruzi. Todos os triatomíneos que capturamos — Panstrongylus rufotuberculatus, Eratyrus mucronatus, Rhodnius pictipes e R. brethesi — foram negativos para flagelados.
