ResumoO surgimento de novos protagonistas dedicados ao apoio jurídico a movimentos sociais e organizações de direitos humanos é uma realidade no campo do direito e da justiça. A advocacia popular constitui uma destas iniciativas, dedicada à defesa jurídica de direitos coletivos e orientada por uma práxis política e solidária. Esta prática rompeu com o modelo individualista da advocacia tradicional e reinventou o direito para colocá--lo a serviço das reivindicações sociais. Explorar e valorizar o significado desta experiência, sua pedagogia de trabalho, seus princípios e estratégias no uso contra--hegemônico do direito é o objetivo deste artigo que, antes de tudo, acredita no potencial teórico--prático da advocacia popular para o processo de democratização do acesso ao direito e à justiça.Palavras--chave: advocacia popular; acesso à justiça; movimento dos trabalhadores rurais sem--terra.
