Resumo: O Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA) caracteriza-se como uma condição na qual há prejuízos na interação e no comportamento social do indivíduo, além da presença de padrões restritivos e repetitivos de comportamentos, interesses ou atividades. Com o aumento da prevalência do TEA, a cada dia surgem novos indícios que ligam exposições ambientais, incluindo fatores pré-natais, a maior incidência de TEA na população. Realizou-se uma revisão sistemática da literatura a fim de compreender, sob o ponto de vista fisiológico, a relação entre fenômenos que antecedem o nascimento e o desenvolvimento do TEA. Dos 44 artigos encontrados, foram analisados e incluídos 17 artigos que preencheram os critérios de seleção dos estudos. A hipótese da ativação da imunidade materna (AIM), em modelos animais, destaca-se como um dos principais fatores de risco ambientais que podem ter relação com a manifestação de sinais característicos do TEA. Foram apontados dois possíveis marcadores genéticos precoces de TEA na placenta: CYP2E1 e IRS2. A relação entre infertilidade e TEA foi inconclusiva. Verificou-se associação positiva entre estresse pré-natal e desenvolvimento do TEA, entretanto,o uso de antidepressivos como fator predisponente ao TEA foi inconcludente. Vitaminas D e do complexo B, durante o período pré-natal, possivelmente, agem como fator de proteção.
