This paper considers the effects of radiation on the flow near the two-dimensional stagnation point of a stretching sheet immersed in a viscous and incompressible electrically conducting fluid in the presence of an applied constant magnetic field. The external velocity and the stretching velocity of the sheet are assumed to vary linearly with the distance from the stagnation point. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations using a similarity transformation, before being solved numerically by the Keller-box method. The features of the heat transfer characteristics for different values of the governing parameters are analyzed and discussed. The results indicate that the heat transfer rate at the surface decreases in the presence of radiation.
of the buoyancy parameter, while fir theassisting flow, the solution is unique. In general, the velocity slip increases the heat transfer rate at the surfaee, while the thermal slip decreases it.
The steady mixed convection flow towards an impermeable vertical plate with a convective surface boundary condition is investigated. The governing partial differential equations are first reduced to ordinary differential equations using a similarity transformation, before being solved numerically. The features of the flow and heat transfer characteristics for different values of the governing parameters are analyzed and discussed. Both assisting and opposing flows are considered. The results indicate that dual solutions exist for the opposing flow, whereas for the assisting flow, the solution is unique. Moreover, increasing the convective parameter is to increase the skin friction coefficient and the heat transfer rate at the surface.
The similarity solution for the problem of mixed convection boundary layer flow adjacent to a stretching vertical sheet in an incompressible electrically conducting fluid in the presence of a transverse magnetic field is presented. It is assumed that the sheet is stretched with a power-law velocity and is subjected to a variable surface heat flux. The governing p d a l differential equations are first transformed into a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations, before being solved numerically by the Keller-box method. The numerical results obtained are then compared with previously reported cases available in the literature as well as the series solution for certain values of parameters, to support their validity. The effects of the goveming parameters on the flow field and heat transfer characteristics are obtained and discussed.
