Le pinete litoranee italiane negli ultimi decenni sono insidiate dalla pressione antropica, dalle attività turistiche e dai parassiti, ma anche da interventi forestali ad alto impatto ambientale; inadatti alla loro stabilità, alla rinnovazione naturale, alla conservazione della biodiversità e al profilo paesaggistico. La gestione e i progetti sulla Pineta del Tombolo di Grosseto ben rappresentano l'inadeguatezza di questo tipo di approccio forestale con interventi di alto impatto, come la soppressione del sottobosco e il taglio a raso, che riducono la complessità raggiunta nei secoli da una pineta archeofita (Gabbrielli, 1993), probabilmente indigena, e tendono ad un assetto boschivo completamente artificiale, coetaneo e geometrico, che non rappresenta le caratteristiche estetiche di grande pregio del paesaggio maremmano. Questo intervento ha lo scopo di mettere in rilievo il valore naturale e culturale di questa pineta analizzando nel dettaglio la sua origine, l'importanza del suo sottobosco, una sua peculiarità quale la presenza di orchidee selvatiche e le presenze faunistiche di rilievo. Sulla base di queste informazioni si suggerisce un nuovo approccio gestionale ispirato alla Silvicoltura Sistemica (Ciancio 2002; 2011) e consono ai principi della biologia della conservazione.Parole chiave: pineta litoranea, biodiversità, rinnovazione naturale, selvicoltura sistemica. IntroduzioneLe pinete litoranee di pino domestico rappresentano un bene naturalistico e ambientale di grande valore, e caratterizzano da sempre, in modo inconfondibile, il paesaggio italiano (e toscano) a livello estetico e emozionale (Bianchi et al., 2005). Da alcuni anni si trovano però in grave pericolo di conservazione, per alcuni elementi di criticità quali la pressione turistica, che ne mette continuamente a repentaglio l'estensione e la conservazione, e per l'attacco di parassiti, primo fra tutti il Leptoglossus occidentalis, che ha compromesso la produzione del pinolo, riaffermando però nei fatti l'indiscutibile vocazione paesaggistica delle pinete costiere, e il Matsucoccus feytaudi che attacca la fascia più vicina al mare, coperta da pino marittimo Pinus pinaster. C'è però un'altra causa di criticità, più importante e complessa che, sul breve periodo, mina la stabilità delle pinete, e cioè la tendenza ad applicare pratiche silvicolturali ad alto impatto, spesso devastanti per l'ecosistema, retaggio di una cultura forestale ormai superata, che vede la pineta come una coltura da reddito, senza alcuna attenzione per la conservazione. Portiamo l'esempio della Pineta del Tombolo grossetano, parte di una fascia boscata quasi ininterrotta che va dalle foci del Magra a quella del Fiora per una superficie di oltre 13.000 ettari.
