O presente estudo tem como objetivo investigar a origem dos recursos que financiaram as necessidades líquidas de capital de giro de uma amostra de 64 cooperativas agropecuárias localizadas em oito estados brasileiros, no período 1999 a 2004. Os resultados obtidos permitem concluir que a demanda por capital de giro das cooperativas não foi financiada, de uma forma geral, com recursos permanentes (exigíveis a longo prazo e patrimônio líquido), havendo, assim, a necessidade de captação de recursos onerosos de curto prazo para complementar o financiamento do seu ciclo financeiro, geralmente de custo e risco mais elevados do que as demais fontes de financiamento.
Este artigo tem como objetivo identificar a ocorrência de criação de valor econômico em cooperativas agropecuárias, utilizando o conceito de Economic Value Added (EVA®). Após a análise e a discussão dos resultados, mesmo considerando as limitações de um estudo de caso, percebe-se que ainda não existem incentivos para que as cooperativas possam capitalizar-se, crescer e buscar uma situação de eficiência econômica que permita o seu associado investir no negócio e ter garantias do retorno sobre o resíduo das operações. O maior retorno poderia estimular novos aportes de capital pelos associados, mas não é o que ocorre, devido à sua baixa remuneração. ABSTRACT INTRODUÇÃOAs cooperativas agropecuárias são constituídas por produtores rurais que procuram uma melhor condição de comercialização de sua produção e de compra de insumos e produtos. Dessa forma, apresenta-se: de um lado, o associado que busca a maximização da prestação de serviços; e, no outro extremo dessa relação, está o mercado, competitivo, oligopolizado em alguns setores, exigindo dos dirigentes cooperativistas estratégias mais agressivas para fazer frente a empresas de capital.De forma geral, muitas cooperativas competem com empresas multinacionais que possuem um bom posicionamento no mercado. Este, por sua vez, baseia-se em fortes marcas em relação ao consumidor final, à alta qualidade, à presença internacional, à flexibilidade e à elevada capacidade financeira. Assim, a tradicional cooperativa está ameaçada, em parte, por suas práticas ineficientes de gestão, como também pelas dificuldades em capitalizar-se.Para atender às expectativas de seus associados, ou seja, a maximização da prestação de serviços, a cooperativa agropecuária precisa gerar excedentes econômicos capazes de promover a remuneração do capital investido na organização, estimulando novos aportes de capital. Desse modo, partindo-se do pressuposto de que as atividades empresariais das cooperativas agropecuárias -assim como das demais empresas de capital -estão sujeitas a um acirramento da competição e exigem dos gestores ações concretas que respondam de maneira eficaz às contingências, objetiva-se, neste estudo, identificar a ocorrência de criação de valor econômico nas cooperativas agropecuárias.O artigo está estruturado da seguinte forma: após esta introdução, procede-se a uma revisão da literatura a respeito dos problemas de capitalização e financiamento das cooperativas agropecuárias.
O cooperativismo possui grande relevância para a economia brasileira, na medida em que atua apoiando o desenvolvimento econômico e social, principalmente das pequenas propriedades rurais. As cooperativas agropecuárias atuam no fomento e na comercialização dos produtos agrícolas, inclusive implantando novos cultivos e agregando valor aos produtos por meio de complexos agroindustriais. O crescimento dessas organizações, sobretudo pela verticalização de suas operações, tem exigido a busca de fontes de capital para financiar as necessidades líquidas de capital de giro dos seus negócios. Decisões sobre financiamento afetam diretamente a saúde financeira das organizações, à medida que produzem um risco financeiro maior. Portanto é relevante uma investigação sobre as fontes de financiamento das necessidades líquidas de capital de giro para as cooperativas agropecuárias, sendo este o objetivo primordial do artigo.
The cooperativism has great relevance to Brazilian economics, as it supports the social and economical development, mainly in the small agricultural properties. The farming cooperatives work on the processing and commercialization of agricultural products, including implanting new kinds of crops and aggregating value to the products through agroindustrial complexes. The growth of these organizations, mainly through verticalization of its operations, has required the quest for capital founts to finance the needs for fluent capital in their business. Decisions concerning financing affect directly the financial health of the organizations, as they produce a bigger financial danger. Therefore it is relevant an investigation on the financing founts for the needs of fluid capital to the agricultural cooperatives, and this is the main goal of this article
