Dyslipidemia is one of the main factor causing atherosclerosis. Dyslipidemia is lipoprotein metabolism disorder which is marked by an increasing of total cholesterol in blood serum. One of the nutrient that can be used to reducing cholesterol synthesis in hepar and inhibit lipid peroxidation is betacaroten that found in purple passion fruit. It contain 1070 µg betacaroten also the other antioksidan such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, flavonoid and fiber. We conduct experimental study to find out the effect of purple passion fruit juice to total cholesterol in atherogenic wistar rat. We used 30 wistar male rat and randomly divided into 5 groups which received different treatment (normal diet; atherogenic diet; atherogenic diet + 2,3 ml/kg purple passion fruit juice; atherogenic diet + 3,3 ml/kg purple passion fruit juice; atherogenic diet + 4,2 ml/kg purple passion fruit juice with gavage treatment) for 60 days. ANOVA was perform to find out the cholesterol total different in each group. This study show that there was no significant different in total cholesterol wistar male rat (p= 0.057), but compare to group which was not given purple passion fruit juice, it show that there was a trend in reducing total cholesterol as we increased amount purple passion fruit given to wistar male rat. It need further investigation about effective dosage of purple passion fruit juice to reducing total cholesterol serum of rats.
Hospital nutritional care requires a timely, accurate and complete information delivery to the patients. Some barriers found in the documentation process include incomplete documentation and errors in calculating patient’s nutritional needs. We developed NUCAPRO (NCP Electronic), a computer-based system, to document the nutritional care process and help dietitians in calculating a patient’s nutritional needs. This computer system was compared with a manual system to find out which of the two provided more accurate and complete documentation. This pre-experimental study used a pre–post-test design. Eight dietitians were recruited from the Internal Medicine Department Hospital in Malang to perform the documentation of the nutritional care of 40 diabetes mellitus patients. The documentation was performed using a manual system and NUCAPRO. The completeness and accuracy of documentation were compared between the two systems. Statistical analysis was done using McNemar. The results showed no difference in terms of completeness and accuracy of documentation between the two systems (p < 0.05). However, the error in calculation using NCP Electronic was found to be lower than the manual system. We suggest developing an alert feature for the system so that the process is more efficient. Consuming adequate intake of fiber from fruit and vegetable is important to prevent metabolic disease. However consumption of fruit and vegetable in Indonesia still less than recommendation. Smoothies fortified with chia seeds has been develop to help achive adequate intake of fruit and vegetable. The objection of this study was to investigating proximate analysis and fiber content of smoothies fortified with various amount of chia seed (0 g, 2.5 g, 5 g and 7.5 g). This was a quantitative study with experimental design using four treatments. Proximat analysis perfomed with Gravimetry, Kjedahl, Soxhlet method for water and ash content, protein and lipid content. Carbohydrate content was test using by difference method. The addition of chia seeds increased the level of crude protein, lipids, carbohydrate and dietary fiber. Fortification of chia seeds in smoothies has improved nutritional content in our product and it became alternative ways to provide adequate intake of dietary fiber.
