A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo geral investigar comportamentos ecológicos e empáticos dos moradores rurais e urbanos das cidades de Petrópolis, Areal, São José do Vale do Rio Preto e Paraíba do Sul, todas do interior do estado do Rio de Janeiro. Uma pesquisa quantitativa correlacional foi feita para a obtenção dos dados. O instrumento utilizado foi um questionário semiestruturado composto por questões sociodemográficas (como escolaridade, sexo, faixa etária, zona de moradia, estado civil e ocupação profissional), além das questões de escala Likert sobre comportamento ecológico e empatia. A aplicação dos instrumentos foi feita em 200 pessoas, sendo metade da área rural e a outra parte da zona urbana. Sua análise foi feita estatisticamente através das frequências das respostas dos participantes. Palavras-chaves: Comportamento ecológico, Empatia, Zona rural, Zona urbana.
