Une série de catalyseurs Rh-M/Al 2 O 3 (M = Fe, Co, Ni, Pb) a été préparée par la méthode d'imprégnation en solution. Les catalyseurs modifiés par Fe, Co, Ni ont été étudiés par thermodésorption programmée (TPD) du toluène, puis testés dans la réaction d'hydrogénation du toluène dans le domaine de température 25-250 °C. L'effet du plomb, connu en tant que poison de catalyseur, a été également étudié. Les résultats de la TPD du toluène montrent une atténuation des forces d'interaction Rh-toluène en présence des additifs Fe, Co et Ni. Celle-ci est exprimée par une augmentation notable de la fraction de toluène désorbant à l'état moléculaire de la surface du rhodium. Par conséquent, ces catalyseurs, promus par Fe, Co et Ni, présentent une meilleure activité et stabilité catalytique. Cependant, le plomb diminue notablement l'activité et la stabilité du catalyseur Rh/Al 2 O 3 .
