Background: Urinary incontinence is a prevalent and distressing problem worldwide that had a significant effect on quality of life and restricted daily activities. One of the key techniques used to rehabilitate and strengthen pelvic floor muscles and facilitate urine storage is kegel exercises. Aim: to evaluate effect of kegel exercise training program on quality of life among women with urinary incontinence. Setting: The research was conducted at outpatient gynecological clinics in two governmental hospitals in Port Said city. Research design: Quasi-experimental study design was used. Sample: Purposive sample of 403 married women with urinary incontinence who admitted to outpatient gynecological clinics. Tools of data collection: Woman's health assessment sheet and quality of life scale were used to collect the needed data. Results: More than half of the studied women (59%) had a mixed type, about one-quarter (24.6%) had urge type, and just 16.4% had urinary incontinence type of stress. More than one-third of women (37.2%) had a full cure, and more than two-thirds of women (62.8%) had improved after three months of the program. In the post-program phase, there were statistically significant improvements in the overall mean quality of life score compared to the pre-program phase. Conclusion: The kegel exercise training program has a positive impact on improving quality of life and urinary incontinence among women. Recommendations: Apply pelvic muscle exercise guidelines for women with urinary incontinence in all outpatient gynecological clinics.
Background:The placental stage of labor occurs between the completion of the newborn's delivery and the completion of the placenta's delivery. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of placental stage of labor care protocol on performance of maternity nurses in Port Said city. Design: A quasi-experimental design was used. Setting: The current study was performed in the labor and delivery departments of two hospitals in Port Said: Obstetrics and Gynecological Specialized Hospital and Alhayaa Hospital. Subjects: A total of 48 nurses were selected convenience for the intervention part of this study. Tools: Structured Self -administered questionnaire and an observational checklist were used to collect data. Results: In the pre-test, more than two thirds of the studied nurses had an unsatisfactory level of knowledge and practices regarding caring of women during the placental stage of labor, but in the post-test and follow-up tests, the highest percentage of the nurses had a satisfactory level of knowledge and practices. Also, there was a highly statistically significant positive correlation between nurses' knowledge and practice about caring of women during placental stage of labor at pre-post and follow-up of developed nursing protocol implementation. Conclusion: The placental stage of labor care protocol had a highly statistically significant positive impact on the studied maternity nurses' performance regarding caring of women during the placental stage of labor. Recommendations: Availability of the developed care protocol and creating a standardized guideline for different services to follow in order to sustain and provide high-quality health care for women during the third stage of labor.
Background: Endometriosis is a common benign gynaecological illness that has negative impact on quality of life, particularly in women of childbearing age. Aim: To assess clinical aspects and quality of life among women with endometriosis in Port Said city. Design: A descriptive study was used. Setting: All gynecology clinics at hospitals and primary health care centers that follow comprehensive health insurance system in Port Said City. Subjects: Purposive sample of 200 women with endometriosis who had been surgically identified were chosen. Tools: Interviewing questionnaire and the Endometriosis Health Profile (EHP-30+5). Results: More than two-thirds of women (62.0%) had pelvic pain. The majority of them (83.0 percent) were infertile. There was a delay in seeking treatment with a mean 5.7±1.6 between the onset of symptoms and the surgical diagnosis of endometriosis. Also, endometriosis has a adverse impact on a woman's quality of life, and there was statistically significant association between endometriosis stages and woman's quality of life in terms of physical, psychological, sexual, educational, and occupational activities. Conclusion: Despite its negative influence on a woman's quality of life in terms of physical, psychological, sexual, educational, and working life, there was a delay in seeking treatment for endometriosis. Recommendations: Women's must be taught how to seek treatment sooner rather than later. In addition, patients will be taught how to manage with chronic pelvic discomfort and how to develop relationships with their partner and friends so that they are supportive in managing with the disease rather than drifting apart due to misconceptions.
