OF OSMOCONDITIONING AND DRYING ON CARROT SEED GERMINATION AND VIGORABSTRACT -Seed priming was evaluated under different technologies including the immersion of seeds in solutions with oxygen supply, followed or not by drying processes. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effects of osmotic conditioning on systems with oxygen supply followed by drying on the germination and the vigor in carrot seeds, cv. "Brasilia". The seeds were submerged in 40mL distilled water and PEG 6000 solutions at 161,30 and 240,97g.L -1 corresponding, respectively, to the osmotic potentials of -0,4 and -0,8MPa, at 15°C, with oxygen supply, during 12, 24 and 48 hours. The seeds were dried in an oven at 35°C, with air circulation for 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 hours and seed moisture content was determined. The effects of the osmotic conditioning and drying were evaluated by the germination test, first count of the germination test, seedling vigor classification, seedling length and mass and electrical conductivity. The seed moisture content decreased linearly with the time when submitted to the drying process. Osmoconditioning followed by seed drying did not affect the germination and contributed to increasing the seed vigor in relation to non osmoconditioned seeds.
This study aimed to evaluate the level of infestation by weed species in a consolidated Jatropha plantation, as a function of the plant species grown in interrows. The experiment was installed in 2006 at the district of Itahum, city of Dourados, state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, made possible through a partnership between Embrapa Western Agriculture and Paraiso Farm. Treatments consisted of (1) Jatropha in monocrop, with no plant at the interrrows; or the following plants cultivaded at the interrows of Jatropha: (2) Stylosanthes spp.; (3) Brachiaria ruziziensis; (4) Brachiaria ruziziensis + Stylosanthess pp.; (5) Brachiaria humidicola; (6) Panicum maximum cv. massai; (7) Cajanus cajan cv. anão; (8) Crotalaria spectabilis; (9) Crop rotation system 1-(maize second crop-Crambe abyssinica-soybean-peanut); and (10) Crop rotation system 2-(cowpea-radish-maize-cowpea) conducted for two years. Phytosociological characterization of weed species was accomplished in 2011 based on the Ecological Approach. Estimations of relative abundance, frequency, dominance and Importance Value Index were obtained. Areas were also characterized by the diversity coefficients of Simpson and modified Shannon-Weiner, and then grouped by cluster analysis. Areas with low soil coverage resulted in higher infestation levels; crop rotation in the interrows of Jatropha produced a significant reduction in weed infestation, but the lowest infestation levels were observed when grasses were grown intercropped with Jatropha. Lower diversity coefficients were associated with occurrence of the most troublesome weed species. In the first years after planting Jatropha, species of Brachiaria or a crop rotation involving species with high mulching ability and whose biomass exhibit a high C:N ratio, should be established in the interrows to avoid problems with weeds infestation.
EFFECTS OF THE EMBEBITION AND OSMOCONDITIONING IN Ttriplaris americana SEEDSABSTRACT -Two experiments were carried out to evaluate the effect of osmotic conditioning on the germination of Triplaris americana seeds, under nondormant and stress conditions. The first experiment was set up in a completaly randomized design with four replications of 50 seeds and the following treatments: T1: water (7 days at 25ºC), T2: -1,5Mpa (NaCl) , T3: -1,5Mpa (NaCl) + 25mg.L -1 -giberellic acid (GA), T4: -0,25Mpa -polyethylem glycol (PEG), T5: -0,25Mpa (PEG) + 25mg.L -1 (GA) and T6: control. The second experiment was a completaly randomized design with four replications of 25 seeds, in a 2x4 factorial design, with two stress conditions and 4 conditionings. The stress conditions were accelerated aging (72 hours in germination chamber (BOD type), at 42ºC and germination at 20ºC. The following treatments were compared: water; -1,5Mpa (NaCl), -0,25Mpa (PEG), without conditioning (control). It was confirmed that in seeds not subjected to stress, the osmotic conditioning did not increase the germination percentage and dry mass of Triplaris americana ("ant-wood"), but conditioning in water and in PEG + GA provided higher germination speed. In conditions of simulated stress, the osmotic conditioning, mainly in -0,25 Mpa (PEG), acted positively in aspects related to Triplaris americana germination and conditioning in water presented similar potential.
