Diante disso, o objetivo do trabalho é avaliar a germinação, desenvolvimento do mogno-africano e brasileiro em diferentes substratos e tratamento pré-germinativo. The African mahogany plant was introduced in Brazil to be produced on a commercial scale and replace the Brazilian mahogany plant, which was intensely exploited and had pest problems resulting in legal prohibition of marketing this species, and thus, promoting the search for alternative products such as the African mahogany. The objective of this study was to evaluate the germination, development, and plant health of both African and Brazilian mahogany planted in different substrates with different pre-germination treatments. The germination of the Brazilian and African mahogany seeds were positively influenced by pre-germination treatments without pericarp. The use of vermiculite substrate showed better results for the germination and development of seedlings of both the plant types. Non-disinfestation of the mahogany seeds without pericarp resulted in increased fungal infection. Therefore, on the basis of the results of the study, we recommend the use of a pre-germination treatment for mahogany seed germination in vermiculite substrate with a seed disinfestation step before sowing.
