40 RESUMEN INTRODUCCIÓN:La infección del tracto urinario (ITU) es una patología común de la infancia, originada por la invasión, multiplicación y colonización de gérmenes. Afecta a niños en los primeros 6 meses de vida con un incremento progresivo en niñas a partir del año. El objetivo fue describir las características demográficas y diagnósticas de los pacientes pediátricos diagnosticados de ITU. MÉTODO:Es un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo cuyo universo fueron los pacientes hospitalizados en Pediatría del hospital José Carrasco Arteaga (HJCA) (N=826), la muestra de estudio estuvo conformada por los pacientes diagnosticados con ITU (confirmado con urocultivo) durante 2013. La información se recolectó a partir de los registros médicos de los pacientes. Para el aná-lisis se utilizó la estadística descriptiva y la información fue tabulada en el programa SPSS v.20. RESULTADOS:La prevalencia de ITU fue del 11.62% (N=96) con urocultivo positivo. El grupo más afectado fue aquel entre 1 y 5 años de edad (45.8%), y predominó en el sexo femenino (86.5%). El 82.3% de los pacientes presentó infección alta del tracto urinario (Pielonefritis), el germen aislado con mayor frecuencia fue Echerichia Coli en el 90.6% de los casos. Las alteraciones anatomo-funcionales representaron el 17.07% de casos, de ellas hasta un 67.4% tuvieron un diagnóstico de ITU recurrente. CONCLUSIÓN:La ITU en la población pediátrica es una patología prevalente y de gran importancia sanitaria. El germen predominante es E.Coli. Existe una mayor probabilidad de infección recurrente en pacientes con alteraciones anatómicas.
