Real time information about direction and type of blood flow can be obtained with Doppler ultrasound. In the literature it was not found data obtained with this method from celiac and cranial mesenteric artery in cats. Moreover, sedation of the animal is occasionally necessary to obtain more information on any blood vessel using this method. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quantitative aspects of spectral waves formed from blood flow of the celiac, cranial mesenteric, renal, external iliac, femoral, and aortic arteries in healthy cats, and to compare them with the same animals when subjected to midazolam, ketamine, and butorphanol sedation. We also measured the heart rate. Twenty healthy adult cats were evaluated. The values obtained for resistivity index and pulsatility index from the celiac artery were 0.62 ± 0.10 and 1.29 ± 0.55, and those from the mesenteric artery were 0.68 ± 0.09 and 1.37 ± 0.39, respectively. Although heart rate was higher in sedated animals, no significant statistical difference was found in case of other parameters, except celiac artery end diastolic velocity and time averaged mean velocity and iliac artery resistivity and pulsatility index. Thus, we provide the Doppler velocimetry parameter from celiac and mesenteric arteries and conclude that this protocol does not alter the values of Doppler ultrasound in the selected vessels, except the celiac and iliac arteries.

INTRODUCTIONLymphoma is the most common canine hematopoietic neoplasm, with reported incidences of 24 to 33 cases per 100,000 dogs (Dorn et al. 1967, Teske 1994. In Brazil, lymphoma is the second most common canine neoplasm leading to death or euthanasia (Fighera et al. 2008 This paper describes the epidemiological, clinical and immunohistochemical characteristics of canine lymphomas diagnosed in the region of Porto Alegre, Brazil. Thirty dogs were enrolled in the study; most of them were male (60%), mixed-breed (23%) and middle-aged or older. The majority (87%) of affected dogs showed the multicentric form. The B-cell phenotype was most frequently detected (62%); 37% of the animals were in clinical stage IV, and 83% were classified as sub-stage "b". Lymphadenopathy was observed in 67% of the cases, and dyspnea, prostration, decreased appetite and vomiting were the most common clinical signs encountered. Anemia was a frequently encountered laboratory alteration (57%), as were leukocytosis (40%), thrombocytopenia (33%), lymphopenia (30%), hyperglobulinemia (20%) and hypercalcemia (13%). The results of this study indicate that the clinical features of dogs with lymphoma in the region of Porto Alegre are similar to those observed worldwide.

ABSTRACTOsteosarcoma is the most common primary tumour of axial squeleton in dogs being the skull a rare site of this tumour, presented in 12% of the dogs with axial osteosarcoma. It's a malignant mesenchymal tumour of primitive bone cells that affect mainly middle-aged to older dogs of medium and large breeds. This work reports a case of skull osteosarcoma in a dog, mixed breed, male, intact, 12 years old, 11kg, presented to Hospital de Clínicas Veterinárias da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul with a swell at the skull. The dog demonstrated pain at the palpation of the mass. Skull and thoracic radiographies were taken and revealed disorientated bone rarefation, destruction and proliferation with swell of adjacents structures compatible with a skull tumour, and mixed intersticial and alveolar pulmonary pattern with rounded nodules distributed randomly in pulmonary fields indicative of metastases. The owner opted by the animal euthanasia. The necropsy was realized and was detected a skull osteoblastic produtive osteosarcoma, characterized by the presence of osteoblasts and osteoid matrix, invading the adjacent musculature. Moreover, osteosarcoma pulmonary mestatases were detected.
