Os transtornos de ansiedade e depressão são vistos como doenças mentais multifatoriais que acometem o dia a dia e compromete as relações interpessoais do indivíduo. Diante desse ponto de vista, os fármacos antidepressivos e ansiolíticos, prescritos de forma recorrente, apontam para efeitos adversos que não só prejudicam as funções cognitivas e motoras, mas também podem causar a dependência ou abstinência desses. Dessa maneira, o objetivo desse artigo é reunir e analisar os principais tratamentos alternativos para esses transtornos, visando o mínimo dano colateral possível para que o medicamento seja viável. Ademais esse estudo se justifica pela relevância científica do tema que eventualmente fornecerá contribuição para os profissionais e acadêmicos de saúde a respeito da compreensão da relação entre o quais os medicamentos alternativos poderiam ser utilizados no caso para que não haja piora. Esta pesquisa se trata de uma revisão integrativa da literatura dos últimos 6 anos, orientada pela questão: “Com relação a pacientes com ansiedade e depressão, os tratamentos alternativos podem ter mais benefícios comparados aos antidepressivos?”. Para a coleta de dados foram utilizados artigos obtidos nas bases de dados: Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde (BVS), Scientif Eletronic Library Online (SciELO), National Library of Medicine (PubMed), EbscoHost, com a utilização dos descritores: Tratamento alternativo, antidepressivos, depressão, ansiedade, transtornos psicológicos, tratamento convencional e com o cruzamento das palavras. Indubitavelmente, indivíduos com depressão ou ansiedade contam com diversos sintomas que, na maioria dos casos, os efeitos adversos dos antidepressivos ou ansiolíticos aumentam o obstáculo que deve ser vencido pelo paciente. Nesse viés, terapêuticas como homeopatia, creatina, cetamina, vitaminas, cannabidiol, fitoterápicos, óleos essenciais e exercícios físicos apresentaram resultados positivos no alívio e melhora de sintomas e, consequentemente, causando menos danos. Fica claro, portanto, que a medicina alternativa, dentro dos limites da pesquisa a respeito do tipo de indivíduo e dose correta a ser estabelecida, se mostra eficaz no tratamento da ansiedade e depressão uma vez que podem ser utilizadas tanto como atores principais quanto coadjuvantes. Logo, é visto, assim como as hipóteses levantadas, os danos ou efeitos colaterais do tratamento alternativo para esses transtornos são inferiores aos fármacos convencionais, como antidepressivos e ansiolíticos.
