O fluxo de água é o principal agente modificador de canais naturais e uma ferramenta útil para entender essas modificações é a teoria da geometria hidráulica. Neste contexto, parâmetros hidráulicos como velocidade média, profundidade hidráulica e largura variam com a vazão como funções potenciais. O objetivo deste trabalho foi obter os coeficientes e expoentes das funções potenciais da geometria hidráulica para 17 seções transversais em um trecho de canal natural de 132 m do rio da Divisa, com largura em torno de 4 m e profundidade média variando de 0,40 a 1,00 m, entre os municípios de Chapecó e Guatambú em Santa Catarina. Também foi analisada a utilização do modelo HEC-RAS 4.1 em estado estacionário e não estacionário para obtenção dos parâmetros hidráulicos. A análise da geometria hidráulica para cada seção foi baseada no diagrama de Rhodes. Os resultados mostraram que não houve diferenças significativas utilizando as simulações em regime permanente e não permanente e que a maiorias das seções transversais apresentam margens estáveis e competência para transporte de sedimentos. Assim, foi possível diagnosticar o trecho de estudo bem como demonstrar a praticidade e confiabilidade do modelo HEC-RAS como ferramenta no auxílio de estudos da geometria hidráulica.
