A B S T R A C TThe herbicide glyphosate affects soil quality bio indicators and morph physiological and nutritional aspects of RR ® soybean plants. However, to the best of our knowledge, the impact of these physiological effects on the quality of RR ® soybean seeds is not known. The expression of enzymes is related to quality of soybean seeds according to the genotype and production environment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physiological quality and the enzymatic activity of RR ® soybean in two production environments as a function of glyphosate doses. The seeds were produced in the 2014/15 crop in Lavras and Patos de Minas in a factorial 3 x 6, three soybean RR ® cultivars a function (CD 250, TMG 1174, V-MAX) and six doses of the herbicide glyphosate (0, 960, 1920, 2880, 3840, 4.800 g e.a. ha -1 ). The harvested seeds were analyzed in the laboratory and enzyme expression as well as water content, germination (in sand and in paper), seedling emergence, emergence speed index, electrical conductivity, accelerated aging and vigor and seed viability. A completely randomized design was adopted. The application of increasing doses of glyphosate up to 4.800 g a.e. ha -1 do not affect the physiological quality of soybean seeds. There was no effect of increasing rates doses of glyphosate on the enzymatic expression of esterase, alco...
The evaluation of genetic parameters in early generations select individuals in F2 and F2:3 and advancing only progenies with the potential to generate pure productive lines. The objectives of this study were to estimate genetic and phenotypic parameters in F2 and F2:3 populations derived from UFUS 7415 and TMG 7161 RR, evaluate different genotype selection strategies, and select progenies to improve agronomic traits. Populations in the F2 and F2:3 generations derived from a biparental cross between the parents UFUS 7415 and TMG 7161 RR were evaluated. The genetic parameters of 360 individuals in the F2 generation and 150 genotypes of each parent were evaluated. Heritability varied from 4.66% for the number of seeds per pod to 86.06% for plant height at flowering. The greatest selection gain was obtained for plant height at flowering (29.68%), related to grain production. In the F2:3 generation, 145 genotypes were evaluated and their parents, in a randomized block design with two replications. The correlations between characters and the genetic gains obtained by direct and indirect selection and based on the genotype–ideotype distance index and the Mulamba and Mock index of the sum of “ranks” were evaluated. With direct selection, selection gains ranged from –5.34 to 16.19%. The genotype–ideotype distance index showed a total selection gain of 40.49%, while the Mulamba and Mock index of the sum of ranks obtained a total gain of 39.35%. Twenty‐three genotypes were selected for the characters evaluated with both indexes in the F3 generation.
The rice crop is affected by diseases throughout its cycle, impacting negatively on grain yield and quality. The control of the disease impact can be accomplished via crop breeding, using highly multiple resistant genotypes. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of multiple‐character and specific selection of multiple resistance to major culture‐associated diseases (neck blast, leaf scald and grain discoloration) in rice lines of the Upland Rice Genetic Breeding Program. The experiments were conducted in 35 sites during 12 agricultural years, where 124 lines were evaluated for the severity of fungal diseases, under natural field conditions. Multiple parameters were calculated based on the diseases´ scores: genetic, phenotypic and environmental variances, heritability, selection gain, renewal rate, and genetic and renewal progress. Genetic variance for the disease resistance was identified in the population, and the selection gain for multiple‐character selection was of 3.16 year−1 throughout the breeding process with a renewal rate of over 35%. The programme has showed efficiency in selecting multiple resistant genotypes to the mentioned diseases, highlighting genotypes with high potential for market release.
