-The objective of this research was to confirm the resistance of a barnyardgrass biotype (Echinochloa crus-galli) to herbicides quinclorac (synthetic auxin), penoxsulam (ALS inhibitor) and cyhalofop-butyl (ACCase inhibitor). Two experiments were carried out in a greenhouse located in Itajaí, State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. One experiment evaluating the biotype ECH 18 (known as susceptible) and one with the ECH 141 biotype (suspected to be multiple resistant). The experimental design used was completely randomized, in a 4 x 7 factorial arrangement with four replications. The first factor was the herbicide: cyhalofopbutyl (Clincher ® ), penoxsulam (Ricer ® ), quinclorac (Facet ® ) and propanil (Grassaid ® ) and the second factor consisting of seven rates of each herbicide (0.00; 0.25; 0.50; 1; 2; 4 and 8 times the label rate). The evaluations of percentage of control, plant density per pot and dry mass of shoots were performed 35 days after treatments. The rates to control 50% and 80% and the dose to provide 50% and 80% of the weed biomass accumulation and the resistance factor were estimated based on data analysis. The initial hypothesis was confirmed; the biotype ECH 141 presented multiple resistance (synthetic auxin, ALS and ACCase inhibitor). However, the herbicide propanil controlled biotype ECH 141 adequate. Keywords: Paddy rice, Echinochloa crus-galli, chemical control, herbicide resistance.
Palavras
Deterministic and probabilistic risk analyses were carried out for seven hydrographic basins in the State of Santa Catarina (Brazil), where irrigated rice is cultivated. Monitoring studies conducted in 1998/1999 and 1999/2000 had found that the herbicide quinclorac was the most frequently detected agrochemical residue, occurring in five of the seven hydrographic basins. In order to assess the ecological risk posed by quinclorac, median lethal concentration (LC(50)) and median effective concentration (EC(50)) data were obtained for quinclorac in toxicity tests with organisms routinely used in Brazil for this purpose. Experiments were carried out on microcosms associated with the irrigated rice crop to evaluate the effects of the herbicide on the natural plankton community. The deterministic analyses showed that the risk presented by the herbicide residues to the phytoplankton require mitigating action, while the probabilistic analysis revealed that the levels of risk for the aquatic community were acceptable. Field experiments showed that the recommended application concentration of the product directly affects phytoplankton and has an indirect, short-term effect on the zooplankton community.
Abstract"Specialty rices" is a common name for varieties that present uncommon grains with distinctive features as pericarp color, grain shape and size or aroma. Most of these rices are related to cultural traditions and ceremonies, but some have higher nutritionally value than white rice. Considering that today people are searching for foods that could help to improve and maintain health, specialty rices would also be considered in some way as functional food. As a specific market, the economic values of these grains are also higher than those of white rice. So, the new red rice variety SCS119 Rubi and the new black rice variety SCS120 Onix were developed in order to attend the specific and economically important specialty rices market, and should be consumed as a whole rice grain. Experimental tests performed with these varieties showed that they could be recommended to all rice-producing regions of Santa Catarina State, Brazil.
