The synthesis of a water/plasma soluble, noncytotoxic, "clicked" sugar-derivative of curcumin with amplified bioefficacy in modulating amyloid-β and tau peptide aggregation is presented. Curcumin inhibits amyloid-β and tau peptide aggregation at micromolar concentrations; the sugar−curcumin conjugate inhibits Aβ and tau peptide aggregation at concentrations as low as 8 nM and 0.1 nM, respectively. In comparison to curcumin, this conveniently synthesized Alzheimer's drug candidate is a more powerful antioxidant.
Multidrug resistance is a global healthcare problem. Gram-negative organisms, particularly Enterobacteriaceae strains are responsible for almost 60% of nosocomial infections. Colistin acts as the last treatment resort in complicated, critical, and MDR cases; also become resistant in the last few years in an escalating manner. Its resistance has been reported almost all over the world. Since there is no alternative antibiotic of colistin-resistant isolates is available. The last year of 2020 was completely engaged with the Covid-19 pandemic for global healthcare systems. This issue is still persisting with no solution. Strict infection control policies and a noval antibiotic with lesser side effects are great in demand to resolve this issue. We gathered 28 studies from 2010 that reported colistin resistance among Enterobacteriaceae throughout the world. Colistin resistance still reported and escalated globally with no available solution. Asia was the leading region with 50% of selected studies followed by Europe and Klebsiella pneumonia and Klebsiella species were the leading organisms of colistin resistance among Enterobacteriaceae. This mini-review was designed to highlight the global importance of colistin-resistant isolates among Enterobacteriaceae, which still an unanswered question.
The incidence of meniscal tear injuries is rising, predominately due to the sporting activities of young adults. There are different methods in orthopedics of meniscal tear management. An Arthroscopic Partial Meniscectomy (APM) is the most practiced orthopedic procedure globally. However, recent literature reported serious concerns about its positive outcome. Meniscal repair is another recommended technique and growing rapidly due to its less incision requirement. Partial Meniscal implant is a modern management strategy with the excellent outcomes but still required further large-scale research. Concluding to the modern strategies of meniscus tear management “Save the meniscus!” is the emerging approach. This review critically analyzed the most adapted management strategies of meniscal tear and the emerging ones.
Total Laboratory Automation (TLA) is the future of laboratory diagnostics due to its efficiency, reproducibility, better turnaround time (TATs), precision, sensitivity, and specificity. Microbiology is generally considered a human dependent field and still, most of the microbiology world is confused with TLA implementation. Two better-claimed technologies BD Kiestra InoqulA and Copan WASP have emerged as a well satisfactory solution of microbiology automation in the last decade. Here we design a practical approach and reviewed all studies of BD Kiestra InoqulA and Copan WASP, assessed microbiology samples in a healthcare setting.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
