Carboplatin plus paclitaxel combination chemotherapy is effective in patients with predominantly nodal/pleural metastases of unknown primary carcinoma and in women with peritoneal carcinomatosis. However, in patients with liver, bone, or multiple organ involvement, the combination offers limited benefit. The investigation of novel treatment approaches is highly warranted for this group of patients.
The present study failed to demonstrate a significant difference in DFS or OS between the two treatment groups. However, our study has shown clearly that high-dose paclitaxel can be safely incorporated to dose-dense sequential chemotherapy.
MVAC is more effective than DC in advanced urothelial cancer. G-CSF-supported MVAC is well tolerated and could be used instead of classic MVAC as first-line treatment in advanced urothelial carcinoma.
Temozolomide demonstrated encouraging activity in the treatment of brain metastases in heavily pretreated patients with solid tumors, and was safe and well tolerated.
